@djsheilab Frankly, having segued Eartheater into TATU you might as well take the rest of the show off! Your work is done!

Just dropped in to see what condition my condition is in DJ Sophisticated Boom Boom Shelia. Sounds like I have a 'female' condition.
  3:27pm jerry h.:

hello djsheilab and gang. we missed your musical presence last week. Great to have you here again!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:32pm geegee vindaloo:

Hi Sheila anyone listening to Kay Starr? Any tributes?
  3:33pm JasonInBoston:

David Mancuso is a LEGEND!
  3:33pm modchick65:

Hi Sheila, did you see that article about how the best sound system in NYC is at the bumper cars in Coney Island? It was set up by a DJ in the 70s... very well might have been that guy. There's an NYTimes article about it from a year or so ago.
  3:34pm JakeGould:

Sound in NYC is such crap. It's like everyone fours to Guitar Center, get basic crap and put them on this poles and then call it a day.
  3:35pm bill:

was it tubes or solid state
  3:35pm JakeGould:

Yes! The El Dorado bumper cars have an amazing sound system.
  3:35pm modchick65:

I'm excited about a place to listen to music in NYC where no one talks.
  3:35pm JtotheK:

Was just thinking of that Love Saves the Day book...I still have to read it. Author has a new book out recently I think 80-83 ish music focus...
  3:36pm JasonInBoston:

YES! You got Curt's name right.
  3:37pm jerry h.:

I read that article also and thought the whole concept was long overdue. I agree with mod chick. Also there was a remark about how much sound is missing from the earbuds that everyone craves.
  3:38pm Cliff in Prague:

Ken seems to like those female Russian musicians, huh.
  3:41pm JakeGould:

FWIW, there was some guy in Willets Point in Queens who built his own sound system in a van. He'd drive it to empty lots, open up the back and then... Party! But I read about him when he got busted. So hey.
Avatar 3:41pm djsheilab:

Here is the link to the Times article: www.nytimes.com...
  3:41pm modchick65:

One of the two things that I wish I could get back in my life was my dad's 1960s Zenith stereo console. (He got rid of it in the 90s). Apart from being Danish Modern Gorgeous, it had the warmest sound I've ever heard. Records sounded AMAZING. Growing up listening to that, I just thought that was how records/vinyl sounded. My turntable now sure doesn't sound like that. Nothing does. I would give anything for that stereo.
  3:43pm modchick65:

I have such a Sam Cooke crush.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:44pm Summer and Michael:

Holy cow, that Springtime Carnivore track was amazing, Sheila! Great show, as ever. We love you!

Oh yeah, Versus. I'd forgotten about them.
  3:53pm jerry h.:

djsheilab_ I know that you are a Sarah Vaughn fan and thought that you would really enjoy her version of "Peter Gunn". It's Sarah at her "sassiest". If you've never heard it you"re missing out on a true gem!

Oh Sheila, I can tell this next track is going to bring out all the feels
  4:13pm JakeGould:

I'm happy it's a sunny day when we hear this sad tune.
  4:13pm modchick65:

I saw them at CMJ in 1995. They passed out 45rpms of one of their songs, and I really liked it at the time (which was odd and exciting for me, because I didn't like music from the US in the '90s). Listened to it again recently and wasn't really into it.
Avatar 4:18pm The Contessa:

Love these sad songs
  4:21pm Cliff in Prague:

Well that was properly devastating

  4:34pm bill:

I have a general question, maybe some of you know--do FMU DJs have these massive, massive collections, or are they drawing mainly from the library???
Avatar 4:37pm The Contessa:

Loving the lyrics to this one. Ha ha.
Avatar 4:37pm djsheilab:

@bill It really depends on the DJ. I pull 95% of my music from my collection. But some DJs are the opposite and pull everything from the library.
Avatar S.B. Boomer: Marathon 2022 Swag For Life Member 4:38pm Mick:

This is amazing!
  4:39pm JakeGould:

*phffftt* elBObO likes the movie "Ghost." What happened? Goodwill ran out of copies of "Jerry McGuire" on VHS?
Avatar 4:39pm geezerette:

hahaha :)
Avatar S.B. Boomer: Marathon 2022 Swag For Life Member 4:39pm Ken From Hyde Park:

@bill - Some DJs also utilize the Free Music Archive. Liz Berg features that source quite a bit.
  4:40pm bill:

thanks=--i'm a big fan and you sound like a really nice person s
  4:41pm bill:

i just ask because, some DJ's have been there 20, 30 years, so you're talking astronomical amounts of music--take gaylord for example
  4:43pm JakeGould:

Gaylord's musical knowledge and wit can make a computer explode. Such knowledge.
  4:43pm modchick65:

OOOH. I was so hoping you would talk about the Lollipops.
Avatar S.B. Boomer: Marathon 2022 Swag For Life Member 4:44pm Rob Kopp:

The Lollipops who did Busy signal?
Avatar S.B. Boomer: Marathon 2022 Swag For Life Member 4:46pm chris:

  4:46pm bill:

sure. .well. i think music people (me too) are really obsessive people record collecting can be mildly pathological
Avatar 4:47pm geezerette:

Sheila you are so sweet. Love your enthusiasm.
  4:47pm modchick65:

Love stories like that. So much. @djsheilab... Have you heard Smoky & His Sister? There's a compilation on Spotify (that's better than the 1 LP they released back in the day). It's a gorgeous record, and there's all this mystery about who they are. Love the rock and roll mysteries.
  4:47pm Darian:

Shiela...this Lollipops story just melts my heart. You are doing the work of an angel.
  4:50pm Matt M:

Always loved this Boyd Sisters record - no wonder now considering who they actually were! :)

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:54pm Adrian in London:

@modchick65 The Smokey & His Sister record is so good and so sad his sister wasn't around for the re-release and to be acknowledged with praise. Gaylord often plays tracks from the album.

@Adrian In London -- Yes, I found what little information there was re: Smokey & His Sister on the internet and was sad to hear that she had passed before receiving recognition for that beautiful record. So sad. But so happy Smokey survived to see it. What a story. I love stuff like that.
