A fine debut by the most important standard, one that seemingly only matters at WFMU (much the pity) - music that flows over and through experience and time, chosen by a person we are all privileged to listen to.

Admittedly, the wonderfully and perfectly almost over the top music is slightly to blame for this comment - that style is really hard to pull off well in a set.

Thanks. And as an online listener since 1999, this is as fine a debut as as any of us could hope for. (Though I will confess a secret - I pretty much try to save the first show of every DJ at WFMU, because they are always such an interesting way to discover another person's insights into just how enjoyable freeform radio can be.)

Thank you so much Foreign Listener K!!! What a lovely comments, I'm so glad you're liking the show and it means a lot to get such a great comment from a listener :)

btw thanks for pointing out Yma's recent Google doodle, just had to search for it on-line. Anyway, show is good waking up music in Europe! cheers

foreign_listener_k:

You are welcome, of course. I have been listening to freeform radio since the late 70s (DC's WHFS), and when the last remnant of that station's legacy of true freeform DJs was replaced, I discovered WFMU in 1999.

The first WFMU show I ever listened to was Monica's - Mogwai and hippy whale songs in the set, as I recall. Yep, not exactly your standard radio fare.

Almost two decades on, WFMU's DJs remain in a class by themselves, dancing through decades and genres effortlessly, to our delighted appreciation.

Though having worked in a TV station's master control in the past, I'm pretty sure you have a different perspective on how effortless it all is.

Bend Sinister - not only would this be good to wake up to, it is even better as a reason to stay in the house instead of shopping in the rain.

ratty:

i do love a chewy show
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:44am
Bronwyn Bishop:

Thanks Bend Sinister :)

And thanks again Listener K! I know what you mean about WFMU being in a class by itself, it blew my mind when I first heard it. I pretty much had one goal in my mind for 5 years and that was getting here. The first time I ever turned it on I heard a 15-minute bass solo :D

Ratty, is my show chewy? And is that a good thing??
  5:49am
ratty:

so very chewy.. i am fully engaged, teasing out all the flavors. big bang shows are good too but give the head some something to work with, the body will take care of itself

Ken From Hyde Park:

Quite a fun show. Will be watching the fill-in page to see when your next appearance will be. You even aired an egregious technical error in homage of Bronwyn C.!
  5:57am
?:

Transcedent might be the word ratty is seeking - that late 60s/early 70s vibe with modern CD skipping is truly perfect. And it is always nice, in a nostalgic master control sort of way, to see the slogan from one of my favorite WFMU t-shirts being proved again - 'WFMU - where dead air lives'

Great show - thanks.
  5:57am
Hi from Holland:

Thanks Bronwyn - good show, hope to hear more!

Make that like 12 egregious technical errors, Ken.

Thanks so much for listening guys! It was a blast! :D
