@Mr. T: i pity the fool doesn't stay tuned today.

this was a very surprising election. i knew it would be bad no matter the outcome. i want to talk about it as much as anybody does but i'm not sure it belongs on this show. everybody's opinions are welcome if you need to get it out. go for it. just be nice. don't be a dick.
  12:29pm

Agreed about it being bad no matter what, Chris. Both parties managed to nominate two extremely unlikable candidates.

I was trying to imagine what kids (girls, in particular) would think if Trump visited their school during a science fair. Schools have a STEM program to promote Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. What words would make up Trump's STEM acronym?

Avatar 1:16pm

@Chris from DC: saw them maybe 8(?) years ago with Michael Gira. scariest show i've ever seen.
  1:16pm
Dean:

You know what's weird? Skim the NYT and you're bound to find in virtually every section something about how Trump changes everything in business, tech, science & environment, etc. Then visit the food section. It's like nothing happened. We're instructed how to make Brussels sprouts, "A New (Faster, Juicier) Way to Roast a Turkey," cornbread dressing... How is what we consume not at all affected by national politics?
Avatar 1:17pm
Chris from DC:

Ha, no doubt.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17pm
Polyus:

Maybe once Trump removes food safety regulations, we'll see something.
  1:23pm
Dean:

If he slashes food safety regs, then the courts will have to undo defamation law, because the "free market" approach to food regulation will require word-of-mouth reportage on Yelp and such. We will have to chime in about our local markets and restaurants. "Don't eat at Joe's. I had the runs for six days." Nowadays, Joe's will send a C&D request, perhaps even sue. But if the test for defamation is made more strict Trump won't be able to sue the women who alleged he harassed them, as he has threatened. Dude needs to think this through.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:25pm
Polyus:

I don't honestly think he would do anything of the sort, just being a smartass.
  1:27pm
Dean:

As am I.
Avatar 1:27pm
Chris M.:

@Polyus: W. Bush actually did just that. there was potentially tainted beef in USA's food supply for 8 years.
Avatar 1:29pm
Bronwyn Bishop:

that explains everything, chris
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:31pm

Hey are we still doing the song association thing? This one owes a lot to Gary Numan. Great show today.
  1:40pm
Dean:

Not exactly accurate, Chris M. Per a chronology by CQ Researcher: "Following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, security tightened at meat plants and other food facilities"; July 2002 "Giant food processor ConAgra recalls 19 million pounds of meat following E. coli contamination that sickens at least 45 and is linked to the death of an Ohio woman"; Sept. 2002 "USDA tightens regulations to try to prevent meat contamination, including directing processing facilities to adopt safety regulations that assume E. coli is likely to occur."

Then in Dec. 2002 "Pilgrim's Pride recalls 27.4 million pounds of cooked sandwich meat, the largest recall in U.S. history, following an outbreak of listeria that leaves 20 people dead in the Northeast and more than 100 sick."
  1:41pm

Point being Bush's USDA did its work, fwiw.
Avatar 1:42pm
