Good evening from Oregon.

Morning, all. Thanks for joining me.

Just Googled and read the Dead's cover of He Was a Friend of Mine was performed between 1966-70. It must have had even more profound meaning as the years went on. That 1969 version sounded pretty mournful.

bbb:

Hi all...

Hagbard Celine:

Dig the International Harvester! Someone please reissue this on vinyl.
Avatar 12:37am
Jeff Conklin:

Agreed, bbb. They only played it a handful of times and 69 was a heavy year (has there been one that isn't?).

@Hagbard: It's my understanding Silence won't license it. Don't know why :/

Very meditative -- good work music too, lucky for me...
  12:46am
bbb:

Oh wow, this is the post Mighty Baby group. Never heard this before...super great. Thanks!
Avatar 12:50am
Hagbard Celine:

@ The Habibiyya. Never heard this either and it is quite fantastic. Wow thanks again!
Avatar 12:53am
Jeff Conklin:

Only recently found out that Mighty Baby/Habibiyya members backed up Richard Thompson during his Sufi period. Great RT interview by Keith Connoly of NNCK here:bombmagazine.org...
  12:56am
bbb:

Yeah, great interview. I read that after you mentioned it on a previous show.
  1:30am
LDV:

Thanks from Maine. Always enjoy your show when I'm still up.
Avatar 1:35am
Jeff Conklin:

Cool story, Stu, except this isnt the Dead.
Avatar 1:37am
Jeff Conklin:

The Dead—and by extension, this—isn't for everyone, that's for sure. Thanks for checking in
  1:40am
rw:

Hey! Checking in a little late. Did I miss anything? Of course I did.
Avatar 1:42am
Jeff Conklin:

Ok, that should do it for the trolling.

Thanks, LDV. Where in Maine?
Avatar 1:43am

rw hey loving the free water from sky

bbb:

Ha...glad you blocked the Trump troll.
Avatar 1:45am
Jeff Conklin:

Never had to do it before. I don't care if someone takes issue with the music but I could see that spiraling to a bad place fast..
  1:45am
rw:

Chocolate Coffee Pot. My friend David keeps a bowl of those things in his studio.

fleep, Yeah! Weird, huh? Hopefully there's more to come this year.
Avatar 1:46am
Jennifer_PNW:

Thanks for taking care of that Jeff.

@RW:

David as in David Gans? Because that's his band!
Avatar 1:48am

Gans! Miss the Well....
  1:49am

JC, No, but I'll bet David Gans has a bowl of 'em too.
Avatar 1:51am

Ha. David sent me that. I was deeply honored. Great jams! More here: dgans.bandcamp.com...
  1:55am

Cool. Thx. I'll check out the album. Got here too late to hear the track on the air.

"Avant"? If you say so. Nice stuff, though
Avatar 2:26am
Jeff Conklin:

Why am I getting my chops busted so much tonight on here?
  2:27am
bbb:

LOL This Perspective tune is nice...she's got the Joni vibe goin' on.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:27am
mariano:

Haven't heard Perspective before, are they from back in the day?
  2:29am
bbb:

Discogs says 1970. "Privately Pressed LP by University of Rhode Island (URI) Student Collective Group that became Follies Bazaar."
  2:29am
rw:

I was thinking the Perspective sounded a little like Heart but without the overblowing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:31am
mariano:

Jeff, take heart from some fake Latin: Non illegitimi carborundum -- Don't let the bastards get you down. Thanks, bbb!
  2:34am
rw:

1970. That would mean Heart sounded a bit like overblown Perspective.
  2:39am
bbb:

Didn't the Wilson sisters start playing music around that same time?
Avatar 2:43am
Scraps:

Heart was there, Roger Fisher, in 1970. The Wilson sister joined later, mid70s
Avatar 2:46am
Scraps:

Hm, Wikipedia disagree with me. Ann joined in 1970 or 1972, and they were Heart, among other names. Complicated
  2:51am
bbb:

Didn't know Ringo Starr started playing banjo ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:52am
mariano:

I remember a couple of years ago here on FMU someone played a band called Gringo Starr.
  2:52am
rw:

Liking the Daniel Bachman.

And Heart was around that early? Crazy.

And... Thanks Mr. Conklin for the beautiful show! Happy Thanksgiving to you and everybody! (I'm sure it's going to be a challenging one for many people this year!)
