ah, jah, the disc is one interrupted recording. i gave it a long, slow fade in cuz that's how it felt on this rainy day in jersey city.

She was, a Kingston resident, and "Deep Listening Space" was in a storefront in the Rondout section of Kingston for many years. Pauline's partner Ione held the live portions of her annual Dream Festival there. My ex wife and I did a few performances as part of the Dream Fest. www.jhhl.net...
Avatar 3:38pm
Kurt Gottschalk:

i always meant to get up to that space. now, of course, i'm sorry i never did.

Cthulhu damn it! Glad I got to see her play in the rain outside of the Lincoln Center a few years ago...

Webhamster Henry:

DLS eventually moved to another space in Kingston, the Paint Factory, home of lots of other artists. Deep Listening has now been folded into other work being done at RPI, where Pauline was teaching for many years.

Dr. PO used two of my apps (SrutiBox, Droneo) in her composition "Droniphonia (2009)", which she performed a few times, including at the show at Miller Theatre when she got the Schuman Award.

Around 2012, I started working with her directly on the iOS version of AUMI, the Adaptive Use Musical Instrument, which enables severely disabled people (or clouds, turtles, water ... ) to play sounds by tracking video.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:45pm
Webhamster Henry:

AUMI has some "usual" instrument sounds, but also samples from Troglodyte's delight, Water phones, the Soldier String Quartet, a swamp (also from Dave Soldier), Waterphones from Jesse Stuart and Glyptodont from Music for Homemade Instruments (just played on Tony Coulter's show about an hour ago).
Avatar 3:46pm
Kurt Gottschalk:

i would love to hear droniphonia. is it around somewhere?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:50pm

It used to be a premium on the DLI website! Here is an excerpt (I think its premiere) .

Al Margolis, of Pogus Productions and If, Bwana, and who comes on Dave Mandl's show once a year, was a Deep Listening staffer.

It wouldn't be suitable for the well-wrought poem, but somebody has to record the sound of recycled bottles falling into the huge recycling bin at the site near where I live. One container of a few dozen bottles as they shatter probably registers 130db. The noise is literally deafening and glorious.
