On one of my many trips to NYC from Cleveland back in the day, I decided to go dancing at Roxy. Just a random weekend night. In the middle of the space, was a platform and out came Colonel Abrams, doing a set, singing over backing tracks. Rest in Peace!

I am just glad it wasn't my left speaker :) I have been having trouble with these speakers lately, sigh. If money grew on trees...

Kat in Chicago:

H&O probably made a better record but that cover has sass.
Avatar 12:47pm
ᏠЄႶႶỊѺµЄ:

Oops! Didn't mean to dis Hall and Oates! I loved 'em as a kid and had a crush on Daryl Hall, but as the years go by I'm afraid H&O falls into the ear worm category for me, which I have no control over.
  12:50pm
Ari:

Haha! It's all good! What can I tell you, I'm a fan (especially the Atlantic albums). Saw them this past Spring and they jammed Can't Go for That for 10min. It was tiiight!
Avatar 12:56pm
still b/p:

For me, too, H&O was one of those pop acts that had an endless run of hits and over-exposure and seemed totally oriented toward pop sales formula/machinery, and so arrived in that "enough already!" musical chafing zone. But now I hear their ol' hits and it's mostly fine and fun, which I'm sure they'll be SO relieved to hear.
Avatar 12:57pm
Cecile:

they had some weird moments. They worked with Robert Fripp, and had hard rock elements on some of their albums. Daryl Hall recorded a solo album with Fripp called North Star.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:58pm
AnAnonymousParty:

I'm a fuckin' guitar player. Is there a spot for me?
Avatar 12:58pm
Cecile:

Any machinery was Darryl Hall. He's quite an authoritarian in the studio.
Avatar 1:01pm
robyn:

Joe Bataan should totally be gov of NJ.
  1:02pm
Ari:

Cecile, I think Daryl's Fripp-produced album was "Sacred Songs." "North Star" was on Fripp's "Exposure."
Avatar 1:03pm
Cecile:

You are right, Ari. Thank you for the correction.
  1:05pm

No problem! All good!

Avatar 1:37pm

That phone ring sounds maybe like an old rotary dial phone. I had a WTF!? wake-up moment one recent morning, after I'd left a rotary phone hooked up temporarily because it's closer to my computer when I needed to be on both at once. Then someone called me early...and that ring, loud, startling, nostalgia-triggering and funny all at once. Thought first it was on clock-radio, not actually in my house.
