Listener james and MONEYBAG$: My internal radio clock is still set for Wednesdays as well, although this slot actually works better for me (all about me.)

Amanda, I have a Simpsons question that perhaps everyone else knows the answer to. Was Duff beer, at least in part, named after Duff McKagen of GnR? Reading his autobiography, and he says he was asked for permission (also saw the documentary, which is pretty good.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:13am
Amanda:

This Duff McKagan tidbit is entirely new to me. Not saying it isn't true, just that it seems a new crazy Simpsons story surfaces every day!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:18am
Uncle Michael:

Didn't Duff Beer appear before anyone had ever heard of G'n'R?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:22am
Amanda:

@MONEYBAG$ glad you found us here!

@UM I'd say not, GnR's peak popularity was around 1988 and Duff beer would've debuted if not in 1990, just a wee bit before then. That is just my best guess tho
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:27am
Stevel:

Wow, I am unreasonably impressed to be presenting said tidbit to you.

UM: (Hey! Is Kansaas a f-ing cold as Indiana today?) This would have been around that '87 '88 mark. Duff also had a large belt studded with Budwiser bottlecaps and was frequently introduced by Axl as "Duff--King of Beers--McKagen."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:33am
Stevel:

In an excerpt from his autobiography, Guns N' Roses bassist Duff McKagan claimed that the beer was named after him as the writers were fans of the band and he was known for his extreme alcohol consumption and was popularly called "The King of Beers". This is a claim Simpsons creator Matt Groening has called "absurd".

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:35am
Stevel:

... In response McKagan has stated that he thought it was common knowledge and uncontroversial that he was the origin of the name, and jokingly called assertions to the contrary "absurd."

listener james from westwood:

We have light snow in Westwood, here in northern Bergen County, and it's cold but not brutal. Supposed to be dangerous winds over the course of today so I'm glad I don't have to fly into or out of here. I am copyediting where it's cozy and hoping a down mood lifts soon. WFMU helps.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:35am
Stevel:

It all seems to be rather "absurd."

Those animals seem to be watching a very gripping program. I would like to watch it with them. And all of you.

@Amanda: it's got a big gasoline stain on it, unfortunately. Current run of tunes bringing me right back to Providence, RI, circa 1990.
