Great start. Thanks.
Avatar 3:12am Hagbard Celine:

I was just hanging around Conklin's show. Suddenly I'm in this blue room with white curtains. Hello Mark R.
  3:13am Mark R:

Welcome, Michael and Celine. Please stick around if you can.
Avatar 3:14am Scraps:

I used to hate this album. Over thirty years, when I warmed up to every phase of Miles's career, I warmed up to Bitches Brew. Now I can't understand why I hated it.
  3:16am Mark R:

A lot of people hated it when it first came out, Scraps. Especially his old fans. Some of them eventually came around like you, some of them, like my dad, never came back. But of course, he picked up a whole bunch of new fans in the process.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:19am Michael 98145:

may we all have Solstice bonfires
Avatar 3:19am Scraps:

It's funny, but I instantly loved some of late Miles, like On the Corner.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:20am Michael 98145:

yes! more good
  3:23am Mark R:

More good is good.

I know this is not exactly FMU's purview, but great 20th century composer Karel Husa (Music for Prague 1968, Apotheosis of this Earth) died on Dec 15.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:29am Michael 98145:

( this has not been a good year for humankind )
Avatar 3:32am Scraps:

right, I see, dec 19 whatever year. duh. sorry!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:33am Michael 98145:

but this is a great set
  3:34am Mark R:

I'm not familiar with him, Scraps, but all music is within FMU's purview. I'll certainly keep him in mind for a future show.
Avatar 3:58am Scraps:

Boy I really hated (I'm sorry, I'm not supposed to be discussing my hatings) Gotta Serve Somebody. For so many reasons. Grrrrr, Bob.
  4:04am Mark R:

It was certainly one of the more confounding phases of Dylan's career, but hearing Pops Staples do it--he was mostly a gospel singer, so in that context "Gotta Serve Somebody" is a great gospel song, no matter who wrote it.
Avatar 4:24am Scraps:

Oh sure, Pops Staples could make anything attractive. I probably could ignore (or not realize) the offensive lyrics. (I was thirteen or fourteen, Catholic, coming out of a priesthood (I thought) life to suddenly I didn't believe. And then Bob telling me I can serve God or I can serve the devil... well. I thought better of Bob. ;-)
Avatar 4:29am Scraps:

Charles Mingus's bands still play, too? I think
Avatar 4:40am Scraps:

I was lucky when I saw Sun Ra in Seattle (at the Rainbow -- 1984?) when I really didn't know how lucky I was. I was nineteen or so. I knew he was weird, and I was very appreciative of the music.
Avatar 4:44am Scraps:

"Trouble Me" is such a great song.
Avatar 5:04am Scraps:

I didn't get into Merchant that way, but I admired her for sometimes having a spooky songwriting style, that sometimes reached into me and twisted me. Like "Dust Bowl". Whew.

Thank you for Patty Waters, thank you for the great show, thank you December 19. I'm sorry about my screed. Truly, I should not go on about my hatreds. I know that. There's so many more likes & appreciations & loves. Peace.
  5:55am Mark R:

Merry Christmas Billy. Stay tuned, Carol's going to kick off her show with some wonderful rare Neil Young! Scraps, I welcome all your comments, you don't have to like everything, I'm glad you're tuned in!
