My family used to just lock me out of the house when they went on vacation. It didn't effect me in the least.

I interviewed Woody Herman for my college radio show in 1981.
Avatar 10:50pm
Kris Holmes:

That's cool, was he cool? He has had a couple of Kiwis in the band over the years!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:52pm
Doug Schulkind:

I asked him a question about having to play the same hits over and over, night after night, and he got really pissed off and answered everything with one-word answers for the rest of the interview.

I'm trying to find recordings of Woody Herman with Alan Broadbent on piano, perhaps arranging, too. Would have been around '81. Know any?
Avatar 11:17pm
Kris Holmes:

Is he on the Fantasy LP?
Avatar 11:19pm
Kris Holmes:

yeah he is, the album is called Brand New, on Fantasy, 1971.
  11:19pm
Dean:

Could be. I really don't know. I have one comp of WH stuff including AB arrangements, but not his performances.
  11:21pm
Dean:

Ah, yes! Very promising. Thank you!
Avatar 11:22pm
Kris Holmes:

the track After Hours has him soloing on electric piano www.youtube.com...
Avatar 11:22pm
Kris Holmes:

i have the LP but it is in storage
  11:24pm
Dean:

Jesus. I have to give that one some time. I hired Broadbent's trio to play my library's centennial in 2000. It was an amazing show. I'm a big, big fan of the guy. A really smart pianist.
Avatar 11:26pm
Kris Holmes:

yeah he's great, even his solo LPs in the 80s are solid (despite the corny cover shots) :-)
  11:38pm
Dean:

Funny, when I hired him, I'd managed to get Yamaha to donate a piano. He did NOT want an electric piano of any sort! We got a decent grand for the affair. But the After Hours track is gorgeous.
