Love Dali. Saw a big exhibition in Rotterdam in the early 70's. Another "modern" painter I like is Hundertwasser. When you're in Vienna to watch the famous Hundertwasser house, don't forget to go to the Hundertwasser museum nearby as well. Beautiful paintings. One of the things he created as well was a flag for Israel AND Palestina

Pretty good interview with Chris Butler on how “Christmas Wrapping” basically broke up “The Waitresses.” But it’s also a really good history of how the band came together. Fave part? How he found Patty Donahue, “Undeterred, he walked into a bar one afternoon and stood on a chair to ask if anyone was up for doing something different. The voice that piped up belonged to Patty Donahue, a 22-year-old waitress working her way through college.”

Listener Robert:

That last piece is one I really got to like under unusual circumstances when I had to listen to it a lot. We had a snowstorm on a Fri. (maybe Thurs.) in Nov., and left work at UMDNJ Newark at noon. when they told us to close. What was usually less than an hour drive to home in the Bronx turned into 6 hrs. during which I nearly ran out of gas twice. I think I had WLIR on because whoever was on your station then on Fri. afternoons I didn't like much. When I got home, I mired my car in a snow bank for the weekend.

Anyway, they had this song in heavy rotation, don't remember how many times I heard it during that drive. I came to love it for its incongruousness, its cleverness, fitting to a march/disco beat a funny story told funnily with all sorts of little tricks in the lyrics to match the beat.

I never knew its right name until I saw it on your playlist now, and the rapping-wrapping ("Christmas Wrapping") pun makes it even funnier. A grand achievement in music composition & prod'n.

Michael 98145:

From the Interweb: ""Them There Eyes" is a jazz song written by Maceo Pinkard, Doris Tauber and William Tracey. It was published in 1930. One of the early recorded versions was performed by Louis Armstrong in 1931. It was made famous by Billie Holiday, who recorded her version in 1939 on Vocalion Records."
