I saw the MIles Ahead film in Feb in Berlin Film Fest and I & friends found it am exploitation of the story of Miles being exploited esp with the prominent character of the journalist's story so badly written ....
and that dumb ass car chase scene with the camera pavement level to show the car crash-lowest common denominator- gotta have the big car crash.
... all Miles periods are interesting but this film was embarrassing and depressing bec it was a crap film. It took a while to handle Cheadle playing Miles. He is not bad but the film is awful because, though well intentioned it is- Let's exploit Miles Davis even more. Depressing.

That live segment at the end was bizarre.
Cheadle's Miles playing with present day Wayne and Herbie w/Esperanza Spalding and the incredibly overrated and under talented Gary Clark Jr. What a joke!

For me the worst aspect of the Miles movie is the way it presents Miles' 1970s music and fashion as the product of a washed up has been. I was hoping it would show that as one of his most fascinating periods.

I think there's still principled disagreement among Miles fans as to the quality of the 70s music.
Henry Kaiser, the eclectic avant-garde garden guitarist, is a huge fan of it.

I haven't seen the movie. But I just don't get documentaries about people for whom there's a ton of stuff on record and film, and interviews galore with people who knew the,. And good books about them. Anyway, Let's Get Lost works because it stared the actual subject,

Gee - I'd've thot the verdict has long been in that Electric Miles was an amazing influential thing all its' own - apart from the strict StraightAhead Jazzers - & I can understand them missing Miles the great tasty Stylist & his choice phrasing - but this is its' own unique thing - different even from other Fusion. Everything Miles did had that under the surface intensity of his personality: if Coltrane swept his collaborators up on a magic carpet, Miles kind of frightened them - or supported them too, or got their heads thinking a different way w/ sharp diversionary insights...
Yes - Miles wanted to stay 'Kewl' in terms of what that meant later - but I've always had the impression he stayed fairly inspired until maybe the very last releases - when he was diminished by illness & maybe out of practice too...
I always wish for Docs over Dramas - but that won't rake in big bucks - & they too often get Docs wrong too...Directors try to turn them into Dramas anyway: their instinct is to tell a Narrative - make a story - which might be insightful (I thot 'No Direction Home' by Scorsese about Dylan was good like that - but that was also several hours, which makes a dif.)
