Seasonal greetings to Bob and all the Brainiacs from snowy Toronto.
  9:09am melinda:

Morning all. This is the first time I've heard the original Manteca, only knew the Verve remix.
Avatar 9:12am SmokinJ:

You know it's gonna' be a good day when the snowblower starts on the first pull! Greetings everyone! 8-)
  9:16am Listener Robert:

I'm sold. Let's promo WFMU's new morning program on WRTH.
  9:20am Stuart Rose:

Good morning, all.
Guy, yet another snowy Saturday in Toronto?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:23am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...well - filtering out trite presentations is a go...but FMU specializes in harsh sounds!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:23am guy mauve:

Not fresh stuff, but snowy residue.

All Christmas like, ya know?
  9:24am Mark R:

The station they were promoting is pretty much the opposite of anything I'd ever want to listen to But then, I'm not a desirable advertising target since I'm a cheapskate Luddite.
  9:25am Mark R:

BTW, Cheapskate Luddites is the name of my band, look for our self-released debut EP sometime in the next 2-3 years (give me time to write some songs, assemble a band, and take some singing lessons).
  9:26am Mark R:

Jesus Christ, Nina Simone was tremendous! Damn. Everybody else sucks in comparison. I feel sorry for the poor record that has to follow this.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:29am guy mauve:

I hear ya, Mark R

I might require a cigarette and I don`t even smoke.
  9:29am Listener Robert:

How about the poor act that has to come onto the stage after your band plays?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:37am melinda:

Little Girl Blue/GKW really is beautiful.
  9:37am Sean in Bristol, UK:

Season greetings to you, Bob
Avatar 9:59am Jeezy:

Did anyone else see NRBQ in Brooklyn last week?!
  10:07am elsickdude:

Thursday's NY Times used to run SG ads which would tell which labels were on sale. Let's see-List $6.98,sale price $3.99/List $9.98,sale $5.49. All artists on a label, not just the top sellers. Sigh
  10:09am Bond:

My name is BOND, James Bond.
Avatar 10:13am Jeezy:

I remember being way more impressed by Tower Records than by the Sam Goodys at Livingston Mall.
Avatar 10:13am Jeezy:

Wow... Bob Dorough played with Miles Davis?
  10:17am williamfromdumont:

Bob Dorough deserves a fine documentary. Really interesting career.
  10:24am mary:

wow this Dorough with Davis. The entire show is wonderful!
I saw the MIles Ahead film in Feb in Berlin Film Fest and I & friends found it am exploitation of the story of Miles being exploited esp with the prominent character of the journalist's story so badly written ....
and that dumb ass car chase scene with the camera pavement level to show the car crash-lowest common denominator- gotta have the big car crash.
... all Miles periods are interesting but this film was embarrassing and depressing bec it was a crap film. It took a while to handle Cheadle playing Miles. He is not bad but the film is awful because, though well intentioned it is- Let's exploit Miles Davis even more. Depressing.
  10:27am williamfromdumont:

Lewis and Clark made an appearance on I Dream of Jeannie performing a song that I've never been able to find.
  10:30am Jeff:

I agree wholeheartedly with Mary re the Cheadle Miles Davis film. What a missed opportunity!
That live segment at the end was bizarre.
Cheadle's Miles playing with present day Wayne and Herbie w/Esperanza Spalding and the incredibly overrated and under talented Gary Clark Jr. What a joke!
  10:32am Mike Sin:

Happy holidays to Bob and his listeners! Always crack up when James Brown says "bull***t" in the middle of an Xmas track. Surprised no one thought to edit/overdub that part!
  10:36am mary:

@Jeff oh yes that cringe last live scene.
Swag For Life Member 10:37am RogerP:

For me the worst aspect of the Miles movie is the way it presents Miles' 1970s music and fashion as the product of a washed up has been. I was hoping it would show that as one of his most fascinating periods.
  10:37am mary:

@RogerP. great point
  10:40am Johnny Staten Island:

Steely dans other sleeper hit. Brooklyn.
  10:41am burpage:

morning bob as always playing SWEET TUNES thanks again
  10:41am Marie:

I know my ears are in good hands when Bob is at the boards.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:41am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

bYRdSy Dan - kewl.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:42am melinda:

sorry to hear that the Miles movie sucks. Are there any docs you guys would recommend instead?
  10:42am Stuart Rose:

I think there's still principled disagreement among Miles fans as to the quality of the 70s music.
Henry Kaiser, the eclectic avant-garde garden guitarist, is a huge fan of it.
Avatar 10:42am Jeezy:

"P o' the Q" is prob my fave Steely track ever.
  10:46am Stuart Rose:

I haven't seen the movie. But I just don't get documentaries about people for whom there's a ton of stuff on record and film, and interviews galore with people who knew the,. And good books about them. Anyway, Let's Get Lost works because it stared the actual subject,
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:50am melinda:

Nice to hear Smokey & His Sister.
  10:52am DebfromSoCal:

Morning, Bob and FOB (Friends of Bob). Thank you for the great music. I wish you the holiday you wish for yourself. I wish for peace, joy, laughter!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:56am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Gee - I'd've thot the verdict has long been in that Electric Miles was an amazing influential thing all its' own - apart from the strict StraightAhead Jazzers - & I can understand them missing Miles the great tasty Stylist & his choice phrasing - but this is its' own unique thing - different even from other Fusion. Everything Miles did had that under the surface intensity of his personality: if Coltrane swept his collaborators up on a magic carpet, Miles kind of frightened them - or supported them too, or got their heads thinking a different way w/ sharp diversionary insights...
Yes - Miles wanted to stay 'Kewl' in terms of what that meant later - but I've always had the impression he stayed fairly inspired until maybe the very last releases - when he was diminished by illness & maybe out of practice too...
I always wish for Docs over Dramas - but that won't rake in big bucks - & they too often get Docs wrong too...Directors try to turn them into Dramas anyway: their instinct is to tell a Narrative - make a story - which might be insightful (I thot 'No Direction Home' by Scorsese about Dylan was good like that - but that was also several hours, which makes a dif.)
