The Rockettes --my, my. I worked as a vacation fill-in stagehand at the Music Hall in the seventies a couple of summers. The girls I knew -- and I only knew a few, even to say hi to -- are long gone, so I have no idea what the vibe is in the current crew. It may be voluntary for them on paper, but I'm sure that anyone who refused to go will find herself no longer getting placed in shows nearly as often as she used to be. That's show biz.

Wigkey gets it about right here; they are well-known to GarageRawk & Psych enthusiasts - & bridged those Genres w/ distinction in the Bay Area - & w/ protopunk aplomb:

The Chocolate Watchband is an American garage rock band that was based in San Jose, California. The band, formed in 1965, went through several lineup changes during its existence, but developed a sound heavily influenced by the Small Faces and The Rolling Stones. Combining typical psychedelic and garage rock components, the band's sound was marked by David Aguilar's lead vocals, and experimental intensity of an early protopunk band. The band's rebellious musical posture, combine with psychedelic-inspired guitar distortions and keyboards, made them one of the harder-edged groups of the period.

More wigkey:
Dantalian's Chariot was a British psychedelic rock band formed in 1967,[1] led by keyboardist and bandleader Zoot Money, and also featuring Andy Summers (later of The Police).[2] They are best remembered for their single "Madman Running Through the Fields",[3] and for their live performances, which featured early psychedelic light shows.[4] The band would all wear white robes and kaftans in concert, with all of their equipment painted white, to heighten the effect of these light shows.[4] The group disbanded in April 1968,[5] with Summers going on to join the Soft Machine and Money joining Eric Burdon & The Animals.

Jonathan Richman was a fairly big Velvet Underground and Andy Warhol fanboy. I think Lou Reed had respect for him. Jonathan recorded “I’m Sticking with You” with Mo Tucker in 1974: “Notes: side 1 offers the legendary duet by Moe and Jonathan Richman. Personnel: Moe Tucker/Jonathan Richman (vocals), Willie Alexander (keyboards, backing vocals), George Nardo (guitar), Walter Powers (bass), Jim Wilkin (drums). This song was recorded February 24, 1974 in Boston at Music Designers studios. Came with liner notes insert backed with a poster of a gig Jon Richman played the night before this historic recording session in 1974.” olivier.landemaine.free.fr...

@BiUK: They're always held up as exemplifying that.
John Sebastian on harp here - but not credited - for the sake of one party's reputation or the other? Lonnie Mack on Bass? Lemme check & see if I got that right...

Yup - &...:
' Alice Cooper claimed he was the inspiration for the line "Woke up this morning and I got myself a beer", as stated on his Planet Rock morning show. According to the book, Light My Fire by Ray Manzarek, a bandmate of Morrison's, the song refers to Morrison's waking after an alleged three weeks of drug-induced sleep and the actual lyric sung is "woke up this morning and I got myself a beard". '
I love the doors - like Iggy, Alice, Bowie, the Bunnymen, Mazzy Star & so on do. I'm good w/ their company...

Nixon was highly competent - but disturbed - & even B-Movie Raygun had served. Drumpf won't even read intelligence briefings. He has no useful background in anything but fraud, bankruptcy & game shows. The Republicans dragged it down this far to score points - & the Dems dragged it to the 'Center' to play along & compete. Now where are we...
