"Ending" does make a great beginning !

Eric Hat:

Awesome start for the new year, Jeff. What up!
Avatar 12:05am
geezerette:

Happy New Year Jeff and other listeners. :D
  12:11am
Dean:

In recent days I have acquired, inter alia, the 3CD Dust on the Nettles, the 3CD Sun Ra definitive singles collection, the 2CD Third Man Records collection of early 20th Century Greek village music, and assorted other thingums (not least, a Robert Palmer LP featuring a couple of guys from The Band!). The Bruce Langhorne tribute will have to join the pile.
Avatar 12:13am
Jeff Conklin:

Morning, everybody. Good to be back with you...
  12:15am
KP:

Happy New Year, Jeff
  12:15am
Mike tp:

Nice n heavy
  12:22am
Erik in Michigan:

Greetings from the west coast - stoked to be listening live. Happy new year, all!
Avatar 12:24am
Jeff Conklin:

@Dean: Dust on the Nettles is one of the best comps of the last decade. Nice pick up! And yes the forthcoming Langhorne tribute should make it into everybody's homes...
  12:27am
Dean:

Dust on the Nettles certainly has proven a mind-blower and eye-opener for me. Likewise, the Sun Ra comp. (And Irwin promises more goodies from Saturn!)
Avatar 12:45am
geezerette:

this is gorgeous.
  12:45am
Erik in Michigan:

Really digging this
  12:49am
Erik in Michigan:

Oh wow, this is a lake Mary project/offshoot?
  12:53am
KP:

Gripping stuff this
Avatar 12:55am

Yes, this is Chaz (Lake Mary) with M Sage and some other cats.

Love this KTG record.
Avatar 1:17am
Jeff Conklin:

He did this tune again with the Centipede group on that Septober Energy record. Elton Dean crushes on that one too....

Santos L. Halper:

Howdy Jeff. Merry New Year and thanks for doing what you do. Don't get to check in live much, but don't think i've missed an archive. And in case i didn't mention it, loved your premium! Keep on...
  1:24am
Dean:

Is "Green and Orange..." one of the "parts" of "Septober Energy"? Never figured that out.
  1:26am
Erik in Michigan:

I need to listen to more jazz.
  1:27am
Patrick:

Really enjoying the jazz set thus far
  1:28am
Dean:

As do we all, Erik in MI. And more Renaissance dance music. But maybe that's just my thing.

One of the "thingums" I've recently acquired is Julius Hemphill's Dogon O.D. O.M.G. Good place to start one's jazz listening regimen.
Avatar 1:28am
Jeff Conklin:

@Santos: Thanks!

@Dean: It's Part IV of Septober Energy

@Patrick: Thanks, man!
Avatar 1:29am
Jeff Conklin:

Man, Dogon AD eludes me. I had an original in my hands once but couldnt afford it. Never even see the Arista Freedom reissue around anymore...
  1:30am
Dean:

Picked up the CD reissue for ten bucks.
Avatar 1:30am
Hagbard Celine:

Merry New Year all...dig it
Avatar 1:31am
Jeff Conklin:

@Erik: I believe everyone needs to listen to more jazz. Check in with WKCR when you're looking for something to listen to, Monday nights espeically for "Jazz Alternatives"
  1:32am
Erik in Michigan:

Cool, I'll check it out. Sounds like digitally for now :/

Avatar 1:35am
Hagbard Celine:

Who's better...this guy...or Neil Peart?
  1:36am
Erik in Michigan:

I don't know what I'd do without greater New York streaming radio. Used to get some of my jazz fix via the long rally, so thanks for the new source. Also, Elvin Jones could play a little...damn.
  1:36am
Dean:

Heh, not even a fair question. Unless you count this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rxLTaY-r3xo

...in which case Neil and the boys most assuredly redeem themselves. My pick for best of '16.
Avatar 1:38am
Jeff Conklin:

Hey, terribillia.

@Hagbard: Ha. Neil is great but Elvin is ELVIN
Avatar 1:40am
Hagbard Celine:

Just being a wiseass. Regular high school debate question. Lovin this stuff!
  1:43am
Dean:

If only high school debates lapsed after high school. Sigh.
  1:46am
Erik in Michigan:

This is getting weird and good
  1:48am
Dean:

This has a King Crimson thing going on. Or vice versa.
Avatar 1:48am
Hagbard Celine:

...and Soft Machine
  1:48am
Erik in Michigan:

Big time bitches brew / live at Fillmore east vibes
  1:50am

There was that one time when Soft Machine opened for Crimson and Miles.

Hard to Deny electric Miles influence on this, that's Terje Rypdal on guitar btw
Avatar 1:52am
geezerette:

Jeff, your show tonight feels like a prayer and a blessing for the new year. I mean that in the widest, most universal way.
  1:54am
Erik in Michigan:

Yeah, the live miles album from Fillmore east (was actually one of the first miles Davis albums I bought, for some reason)
  1:56am
Erik in Michigan:

Yeah, this is the way to close this set. Love it.
Avatar 1:57am
geezerette:

Or I could just say I love jazz.
Wishing good things for all in '17.
  1:57am
Dean:

I so clearly recall a classmate of mine in high school, c.1975, after I expressed my enthusiasm for Yes's Tales album urging me to listen to Birds of Fire.
  2:06am
Erik in Michigan:

I've been turned on to an insane amount of music via pre-show / set break PA music.
  2:07am
Dean:

Gary Boyle's Isotope deserves so much more attention!
Avatar 2:11am
Jeff Conklin:

@geezerette: That's an amazing compliment, thank you so much.

  2:26am

Do you know Tony McManus?
Avatar 2:30am
Jeff Conklin:

Thank you, Mr Mitch.

@Dean: You talkin to me? I don't think so
  2:32am
Dean:

Yes. That Osborn reminds me of his work. Check out Ceol More and Pourquoi Quebec, as well as Maker's Mark, on which he features several gorgeous instruments.
  2:36am
Dean:

Looks like there's a bunch of YouTube stuff, including promotional ads and such. Maybe start here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hwkjt9CE2ys
Avatar 2:38am
Jeff Conklin:

Cool, thanks, will check it out.
  2:41am
Erik in Michigan:

This is great. Have struggled to get into Jon Collin in previous attempts, but I apparently need to try harder.
Avatar 2:45am
Jeff Conklin:

@Erik: Lots of great stuff on his bandcamp, try 'The Open Road' release.
  2:56am
Erik in Michigan:

Thanks Jeff, love the show.
  2:59am
Juan:

Happy New Year from Baja, Mr Conklin! Decided to shower and shave with your show, which takes a while with the safety razor, so I started with the proggy fusion and ended with the raga. Excellent show.
