Favoriting Brian Turner: Playlist from January 10, 2017 Favoriting

Order and disorder in a freeform haze of terribly-played guitars, shorted-out electronics, found audio detritus, strange sounds from strange lands all around. Psych-punk-junk, collage, even pop. Lots of in-studio live performances to boot.

Hayden became a print model and later signed a contract with Paramount Pictures, who dubbed the 6′5″ (1.96 m)[2] actor "The Most Beautiful Man in the Movies" and "The Beautiful Blond Viking God."

What I heard is - Melvins are LOUD - like seeing Sabbath...sounds like legendary Blue Cheer scenes: big amps in places barely hold a few 100...

I've only seen the Melvins in clubs, which somewhat limits how loud things get. They are certainly thunderous, but nothing like Moorhead or Swans when I saw them at ATP Iceland in 2015.

But again, that's a completely different scale of soundsystem.

Motörhead, FFS...
Avatar 5:11pm
Rev. Turnip Druid:

I'll second the Motörhead reference. Their set at Weedsport NY (1991-ish?) was my only experience, and it was jaw-breakingly, wonderfully effin' loud. As one would expect.
Avatar 5:13pm
MenfussMike:

i will never forget seeing KISS in Jan 1984. Gene Simmons bass solo shook and vibrated my 13 year old chest cavity. I had not ever had that sensation before nor since.

Menfuss: check out some reggae live. I saw The Who once and they were loud. Then the Jefferson Airplane came out next and they were louder!
Avatar 5:15pm
Carmichael:

The manage for Blue Cheer said they're so loud they turn the air into cottage cheese.
Avatar 5:17pm
MenfussMike:

@tdk. I believe the who had the record at one point for being the loudest. Hard to believe a bunch of hippies could be louder

Brian Turner:

Doh the Squigtones rumor mill was wrong: A photo on the inside cover also includes two band members, "Murph", the keyboard player from The Blues Brothers, and "Ming the Merciless," purported to be Kiss drummer Peter Criss without his famous "cat" costume and make-up, though Criss denies it was him. McKean has confirmed that the drummer in the photograph is actually Don Poncher. [1]

Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

The Fillmores helped pioneer decent soundsystems. TheWh♂ helped pioneer Marshall stacks - the 1st 6' amplifiers - & many attest to the 'Oo's continued exceptional volume threshold into the 70s. Seems to me the size of the amps & soundsystems relative the size of the space will deffo be a factor in moving the air & perceived decibels. The Cheer had two Marshalls each - four stacks - or more - full bore in little clubs. But then - Metal has seen massive arenas as the license for extremes in equipment fetish. To 11, as it were. Received information says AC/DC are a blow to the sternum as even 100 yards...MBV would be in the saturation @ short distance category & are legendary...Amp & PA technology have advanced so - Bass delivery especially, I think (& a cultural bias shift towards it) - even small Rawk venues generally have more than enuff arsenal to pummel you into deafness - especially if there's more than one act & it goes on for hours...
