From Burn it Down to Catch a Fire. I am so in. Good morning, Meghan.

Darn, the type of music I was hoping to get a break from! Can't win 'em all.

Good morning everyone!

Damn, I have to go. Nice to see you're still doing fill-ins though, it keeps alive my hope for a full return someday. Did you apply for the morning show? "The Rush Hours with Meghan" would have a nice ring to it (runs away ducking)

' The lyrics are almost literally derived from a speech made by Ethiopian Emperor Haile Selassie I before the United Nations General Assembly on 4 October 1963. '

Until the philosophy
Which hold one race superior and another
Inferior
Is finally
And permanently
Discredited
And abandoned
Everywhere is war
Me say war
That until there no longer
First class and second class citizens of any nation
Until the color of a man's skin
Is of no more significance than the color of his eyes
Me say war
That until the basic human rights
Are equally guaranteed to all
Without regard to race
Dis a war
That until that day
The dream of lasting peace,
World citizenship
Rule of international morality
Will remain in but a fleeting illusion to be pursued,
But never attained
Now everywhere is war
War
And until the ignoble and unhappy regimes
That hold our brothers in Angola
In Mozambique
South Africa
Sub-human bondage
Have been toppled
Utterly destroyed
Well, everywhere is war
Me say war
War in the east
War in the west
War up north
War down south
War war
Rumors of war
And until that day,
The African continent
Will not know peace,
We Africans will fight we find it necessary
And we know we shall win
As we are confident
In the victory
Of good over evil
Good over evil, yeah
Good over evil
Good over evil, yeah
Good over evil

hahahaha.... nope! No morning show for me... but always fill ins!
  9:05am
Listener Robert:

That's why for decades I hardly ever listened at this hour: It sounded like something to put me back to sleep instead of wake me up. But maybe OK this AM because I'm hung over. From tramadol. For a toothache last night.
  9:06am
Listener Robert:

Sun. AM I meant.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:06am
Meghan:

I won't put you to sleep.... being sleep deprived myself today, that would be a bad idea for all!
  9:09am
Listener Robert:

I'm stimulated by most Caribbean music, but reggae & ska are soporific to me.

Listener Robert:

I've started a "relationship" w a new station. Thurs. I was killing time on Spring St. in Newton NJ waiting for a bus, saw a glass store front w somebody attending to a rack of CDs on one wall. I thought it was a record shop -- there's one selling vinyl platters a block away -- so tried opening the door, only to find it locked. Someone came to say they're not open, so I asked what kind of biz that was, and someone from the desk came to tell me she was DJing a show. They're an offshoot of the Newton Theater on the other side of Spring St., streaming 24-7, of which she said most hours were DJd. Only been operating a week or so according to their Facebook. Apparently interested in getting a b'cast freq. too.

I asked if they had someone about to try out for the WFMU weekday morning show. Not that she knew of.

interesting.... I always like coming across new stations. It's nice to see radio not totally dying....

Listener Robert:

A friend of mine who lives just outside town -- and also listens to WFMU -- had already "like"d their Facebook page. Meanwhile I'm living a few mi. south w a mutual friend who's listened to WFMU since the 1970s; I go back as a conscious listener to WFMU only since the 1980s. He kicked in $100 to the last silent marathon (thru Frangry's show IIRC), while I was tapped out -- owed him rent $ at that time, in fact -- so on 2 grounds he has "rank" on me.
  9:24am
Listener Robert:

I mean the friend who lives just outside Newton (inside it as far as the post office is concerned) had "like"d the Facebook of this Newtradio.org whose studio I nearly stumbled into.

Don't know if there's enough Coca-Cola in the house -- or in the world -- to get me un-hung-over. I may try a bath. In this house a bath is a bubble bath whether you want that effect or not, because water softener in the line, so just using a cake of soap sudses up the tub. Landlord requires it to protect plumbing because ground water here is on the aquifer that a road called Limecrest Ave. runs along.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:55am

I don't think a bubble bath has cured my hangovers..... usually aspirin and sleep

the Canterbury wood-elf:

@Meghan if you were wondering about the "Anti-Sus" thing, this refered to the "Sus Laws" in the UK in the early 80s which empowered the police to stop and search people on the basis of "SUSpicion" alone. They were regularly searching young black men in Brixton (an area of south London with big Jamaican immigrant community) to bust them for ganja and easily fulfill arrest quotas. This eventually led to riots in London, Birmingham and Liverpool. The laws have since been repealed. Thanks for that LKJ, hadn't heard it in years...

Listener Robert:

Even after softening -- exchanging sodium for the calcium in this lime-y water -- the water left spots on housemate Steve's nice black truck from washing it, and on eating utensils. Probably mostly sodium bicarbonate in the spots, but likely some sulfate too, because the water probably has iron sulfide in it. The first run in the morning from the faucet smells of H2S, and the water filter is rust-colored, apparently from Fe2O3. So I'm inferring FeS + H2O --> H2S + FeO, and then some of both the FeO and sulfur further oxidize to ferric oxide and calcium sulfate, which becomes sodium sulfate after ion exchange via the Portasoft column.

Whew, for a bit there I was afraid anti-Sus meant anti-Sussex, the county in NJ I've recently moved into & was giving all the colorful background on upthread. Oh, well, it's just about oppression of OTHER people...carry on, then.

Unfortunately Ivory bites if I push her too hard, which I'm afraid I might.

Meghan's reminding me that I took part in the big march in 1982 that was largely an anti-Reagan thing, but in a few years looked back on Reagan's presidency as a pretty good thing.

anyway, Thanks!
