@sugarwolf: Delayed response due to nap… Yes, “WokeBaby” is the kid with scribbles on her sign. Also, there can never be enough remixes of a neo-Nazi getting punched in the face. The New Order one is good… Every one of them is good. My favorite one is the one where he gets punched in the face.
Rev, i'm sure Lennon was talking about the City, but my part of the state is known for sightings. i've experienced 3 or 4, one with someone who unequivocally did not believe in UFOs. a city guest had a close encounter too!
then again there were the city guests who met their hosts one night with excited yammering about how they'd just heard the UFOs. turns out it was coyotes ..
@Revolution Rabbit Nov63: The Apple was Cannon Films (Golan & Globus) attempting to contrive a midnight cult film a la Rocky Horror. They were ultimately successful but not on their own timetable.
I think many have seen lights they can't I.D.
...I was in a hot tub w/ a few others in SoCal (disqualified already, right?) - not in a Town even but a bit out; there are Bases out there - what have you...
A large very dark object w/ lights passed over - & over - like the big ship beginning of 'Star Wars' - very near @ low altitude...& *didn't make a damned sound*.
The space ship was large, more square rather than saucer-shaped, with lights and hovering low. It was scary but I think at some point I determined that it was actually a military craft.
@ geezerette : I am watching "Dreams of the Rarebit Fiend" with the original audio muted, listening instead with the selections of Mr. Fields. Thank you.
The 'military craft' flew away. I definitely had stress-related dreams after the election, they were dystopian in nature. One involved driving through a drought-stricken area with an exotic animal petting zoo, but the animals were on their last legs.
I had Mordor-like nightmares during the GulfWar - burning petroleum purgatories. & Drumpf now, I know I have - thinking 'even in sleep?!?!' - & forgetting...
The United States of America album is a Classic - a must. An ironic time to begin to hit Rawk's Half Century of Psychedelic unfoldment...
Little-known fact: The band most often cited by Lou Reed as a major influence on the Velvets? Alvin & the Chipmunks. Once you know that, it seems self-evident.
can't see how anyone with ears for music at the time wouldn't be influenced by folk & then take that into electric instrumentation ~ like the byrds & velvets did more or less simultaneously .. along with Dylan. ..
Yes, the 'Munks (as Lou & John called them) were foundational for the Velvets. The reason they were off the charts after a rousing start in the late '50s is that Simon developed a crippling smack habit. He was in and out of rehab, and the brothers struggled to carry on without him. Ron Dante often subbed for Simon under the pseud "Charlie Chipmunk." Ask Lyle about this.
it's always the quiet ones .. the studious types with difficulties adjusting to worldwide fame, too much too soon .. who turn to the comforting arms of Sister Morphine .. Rev that's funny!
...rawkin' an' a rollin' - spinnin' in a hoooolahoop!
This Rawkin'Roll has gotta stop -Junior's head is hard as Rawks!
- Now Junior - behave your self !!
Theodore did some sessions with Arthur Lee after Lee fired his "Forever Changes" band. Still unreleased. Sundazed has been trying to get them out of Liberty's vaults for decades.
of course they didn't play on their own records! it was impossible to get them organized for their set dates. what with the drugs, the prostitutes, the stints in rehab, the mania .. & studio time is expensive.
In the WC movie, Hal Blaine had stories about Alvin's decadent habits, esp. when a drunken Dennis Wilson would unexpectedly show up in the studio. And yes, there were Manson rumors.
i hear an acorn habit is the worst. few survive with their mental facilities or digestive tracts intact. it's like riding on a speed binge with no way down but furniture polish!
There was originally a fourth brother in the group, Hiram. They abused him mercilessly, always referred to him as "Zeppo Chipmunk." He finally quit in disgust, tried going solo, failed, attempted suicide, wound up in a monastery.
actually, the original title for the velvets song was 'i'm waiting for my tree' .. they knew a little bit about acorns. standing around the maple tree for months in the snow .. .. but Lou was concerned the song wouldn't be commercial.
Anything I've written above about the 'Munks can be verified in Hollywood Babylon III. There's a whole chapter on the entire sick family. Kim Fowley makes a cameo.
