Little Danny:

Hi Kris! Strong start - that Radiants is a major fave of mine
Avatar 10:09pm
Kris Holmes:

Dan it's a stone classic!!
Avatar 10:09pm
Kris Holmes:

flip of the electrons 45 playing now is actually another version of the radiants heh
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:10pm
Uncle Michael:

This Electrons disproved my theory that I never needed to hear this song again.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:11pm
Uncle Michael:

I don't suppose they recorded Mustang Sally or Stormy Monday?
Avatar 10:12pm
Kris Holmes:

ugh, nope hahaha
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:14pm
Little Danny:

@UM I'm generally with you on "Midnight Hour," though the Mod 4 (all-female garage band from the Midwest) and Ray Brown & the Whispers did serviceable versions.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:15pm
Uncle Michael:

That should be a viral Facebook list thing. Ten songs you don't dislike per se...but that you don't ever need to hear again, as long as you live.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:17pm
Uncle Michael:

See Danny, a lack of great recordings of Midnight Hour isn't the issue. It's one of those song that's taken up as much of my attention across the decades as it could ever possibly justify.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:20pm
Little Danny:

I hear ya UM. I feel the same way about a lot of popular soul & R&B evergreens. Tho of course I'm drawing a complete blank on specific titles right now
Avatar 10:20pm
Kris Holmes:

Ray Brown did some good versions of stuff for sure
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:20pm
Uncle Michael:

Cliff Nobles had more than one record!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:20pm
Little Danny:

I will still devour any version of "Tighten Up" howevs

re: midnight hour -- what's the verdict on the Ann Mason featuring Little Mac and the Boss Sounds answer record "You Can't Love Me (In the Midnight Hour)" on Atlantic. I dig it!
Avatar 10:21pm
Kris Holmes:

Yeah this Cliff Nobles ain't even mentioning a Horse anywhere
Avatar 10:21pm
Kris Holmes:

the Ann Mason is great, i'm a fan of that
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22pm
Uncle Michael:

I love the story that Archie was in jail the first time he heard his record...whether it's true or not.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22pm
Little Danny:

@J2tK: oh yeah, that's a good version!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23pm
Uncle Michael:

My man Richard Evans playing this bass line, on Zambezi, I think.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24pm
Little Danny:

Richard Evans all over all the Soulful Strings!
Avatar 10:25pm
Kris Holmes:

i thought Archie was in Vietnam when it hit?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:26pm
Uncle Michael:

Kind of his baby. many years ago I started learning about him when I finally decided, screw it....I gotta know who's playing the bass on Gene Chandler's "Groovy Situation". One of the best bass parts *ever*.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:26pm
Uncle Michael:

Maybe so, Kris..like I said, whether it's true or not.
Avatar 10:27pm
Kris Holmes:

Richard Evans runs deep in credits

@Little Danny -- re: Tighten Up - I hope to find Roosevelt Matthews with Billy Ball and the Upsetters 'Tighten Up Tighter' on King someday in a 50 cent bin.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:27pm
Uncle Michael:

Not nearly as famous as he deserves to be.
Avatar 10:28pm
Kris Holmes:

one that i left in NZ & am now fearful for it's safe passage to texas....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:28pm
Little Danny:

Good luck on that Jason! That's definitely one of my fave versions
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:31pm
JtotheK:

and speaking of Gene Chandler -- I've seen plenty of his 45s over the years, but still haven't come across "In My Body's House" on Checker, or 'Mr Big Shot' on Constellation.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:32pm
JtotheK:

The Yellow Magic Orchestra cover of 'Tighten Up' is pretty great, too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:32pm
Uncle Michael:

Any Bobby Freeman tonight, Kris?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:32pm
Little Danny:

Is this Vareeations one of those 45s where the A-side is the vocal version?
Avatar 10:38pm
Kris Holmes:

nah it's a totally different thing
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40pm
Uncle Michael:

I want a new drug...I mean Ghostbuster...I mean...

that village of Love 45 is the most i've ever paid for 2 songs, one of which i didn't know.

-first heard it during a wfmu marathon in the 80s and i was recording it onto cassette but during the git solo they yelled out the pledge number!
...so i went hunting.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:30pm
Little Danny:

Kris, have you heard Mayer's originally unreleased "I Don't Want No Bald Headed Woman Telling Me What To Do" that came out on Norton in the early 2000s? Intense stuff!
