greetings Wm. and....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20am Listener Howard and the Cats:

Now I'm wondering which style of hat you'd wear...
Avatar 12:20am Wm.:

Why Howard, I wear many hats of course...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21am Listener Howard and the Cats:

I'm picturing you in a hat like the one in the painting of Vlad Tepes.
Avatar 12:21am Wm.:

...most often a hoodie, because I am THE WHITE LUKE CAGE.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:22am Listener Howard and the Cats:

That Vlad hat would work with a smoking jacket.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23am Listener Howard and the Cats:

I usually opt for the hoodie, as well. The bigger the hood, the better.
Avatar 12:23am Wm.:

Bejeweled...plus I could hide my stash up in there.
Avatar 12:24am Wm.:

@Howard Yes, urban blinders!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:26am Listener Howard and the Cats:

Actually, my WFMU hoodie is my favorite because it has the biggest hood. Urban blinders, exactly.
Avatar 12:27am Wm.:

Do you have the Chinese lanterns? like that one
Avatar 12:31am tracy:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37am Listener Howard and the Cats:

No, WFMU in yellow with the audio waveform below, it's perfectly big and comfy. I used to get the new shirts and stuff with every marathon, but after so many years of that I can now only take ones that I really really love and will wear regularly... So good to hear you, Wm., I hope all is well!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38am Listener Howard and the Cats:

But if there was a Castle shirt or hoodie, I'd be all over that...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:39am Listener Howard and the Cats:

Rick Springfield totally made that soundtrack.
Avatar 12:41am Wm.:

They have coke in the Coke can, ridiculous! Handsome Italian thugs!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:01am Listener Howard and the Cats:

My heart throbs for psychic youth
Avatar 2:03am Wm.:

...you mean those perpeptual/self-driving sculpture things?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:05am coelacanth∅:

it's my brain again. damn thing...
those tumbleweeds remind me of how i imagine Kafka's odradek to appear.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:06am coelacanth∅:

- or maybe not appear but how it moves.
Avatar 2:09am Wm.:

It's a good critique of Capitalism. Mine are much more boorish and angry.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:15am coelacanth∅:

i need to read more Kafka. metamorphosis is next, i think. i've never actually read "...family man"; i just know the basics of it and some details.
Avatar 2:18am Wm.:

I have some favorites; A Country Doctor is super-disturbing, and At The Penal Colony. Those stories put weird shit in my head I'll never be able to forget.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:27am coelacanth∅:

okay. both of those have been recommended to me but without even that bit of insight. i have to pick the right time for them or either they may not grasp me or may send me careening into hell. i loosely rotate between different styles and i think when i'm done with what i'm reading now (Gabriel Garcia Marquez) i should get something fairly easy and slightly humorous, or at least ironic. then back to something heavy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:29am coelacanth∅:

Wm. do you have any preferred translators for Kafka?
Avatar 2:29am Wm.:

...I still have yet to start Doug Stanhope's Digging Up Mother, on my table ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:32am coelacanth∅:

yeah i should consider reading more books by people who are still alive.
Avatar 2:34am Wm.:

Sadly, not off the top of my head. I was given a short story collection by late WFMU alum Terry Folger (tkf) and it's at home & an old edition. I'll try to remember to look at it. The translations are excellent.
Avatar 2:38am kimgland:

morning. gate-very good
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:41am coelacanth∅:

i remember Terry Folger, vaguely. on in the 80s right?
...i'd appreciate it, if you think they're very good. my Hesse books are good translations, but from what i've read, Kafka uses aspects of language that are fairly unique to german, more than Hesse possibly.
Avatar 2:43am Wm.:

Terry was on the air throughout the 80s and early 90s
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:46am coelacanth∅:

i didn't know he'd moved on.
rest in peace.
Avatar 2:48am Wm.:

yes 1994
