i would guess that the Beach Boys did not need carli (much) in the studio - but he mostly was part of the live band. pretty much fataar and chaplin were the big crossovers into the studio - i assume we are all about to find out....

Frank Above:

Not music that I would actually seek out to listen to, but Gaga has been on the Howard Stern show a few times and always does a stripped down performance with just her and the piano each time she's on. Her talent is pretty evident in that setting, but I can't say I'm a fan with the so-called "finished product" on her albums.

' If you plan to be a warrior, prepare to be broken. If you plan to be an explorer, prepare to get lost. If you plan to be a lover, prepare for both. '
...' Why *speak* of Love? 1st - Love must shatter us. '

Many PopIcons whose attitudes I like - Madonna, GeorgeMichael, RickyVidaLoca - but Musically I just don't need. Gaga's another, tho' she can sing. She's supposed to be Shocking - but what's New & Original? Where's the great Ideas? See - it became all about Performers. But - Ideas - Something to Say - those are Talents too. Okay?! Famous for being Famous never interested me much...then complain about he paparazzi...it's like the DEA & the Cartels - jobs for them & nothing in it for me...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:36am

Avatar 11:39am

wow Frank - those Howard appearances are exactly what I'd point to as evidence of her being particularly mediocre - and pretentious - she sounds like an unworldly self involved high school coffee house singer who just wrote her first song - I like her politics

Such a fun song.
Avatar #1 Hit Supporter Hellraiser 2024 Swag For Life Member 11:43am
Frank Above:

Maybe comparing those performances to what's on the albums is throwing off my perception, but I think she's decent. Again, not something I'd have in my collection, and talent doesn't always translate to quality, but I think she can play and sing. Sure, the air of pretentiousness is evident, but I think that's a part of her package. She definitely plays up the "artist" angle.
