Rev. Turnip Druid:

HEH! Cecile 11:51 -- couple of years ago, Ferry had a couple of dates here in DC at a venue that was practically across the alley from our apartment, yet the timing didn't work...
Avatar 🥁 12:12pm
Rev. Turnip Druid:

...rather glad we moved outta there. The subs from the venue rattling bedroom windows every night CAN get a little tedious...
Avatar 12:16pm
Tony Coulter:

There's certainly no denying that Thinking Plague listened to their fair share of Henry Cow and Art Bears records.

They forgot to add the hiss on the cassette. The fi is pretty good, no?

Hey, doctorjazz!

Thinking Plague are indeed great -- and still going strong, as Rev. Turnip said.

Cage of Reason is another Deja-Vu ... no idea in which relation I had or heard this track back then.

Here's some real deva vu for you: we just heard this track 30 minutes ago, on the sampler.

Speaking of forthcoming releases, I finally received Keith Berry's "Elixir" yesterday. It had been delayed for about a year while Matthew of invisible birds moved from Portland to NYC. It is well worth the wait, a beautiful record: http://invisiblebirds.org/catalogue/ib010.html

By the by, Michael Gersten out here in Portland hepped me to this Trivison/Slabe tape recently. He'll be opening a new record store in North Portland in a month, called Speck's Record & Tapes.
  1:35pm
Dean:

Have you already reported on the illustration on which the tapes are sitting? A record cover? Something else?
Avatar 1:37pm
Tony Coulter:

@ Dean: Yes, it is a record cover. Didn't ask for guesses since it's only part of the cover -- but guess away if you wish!!
  1:37pm
Dean:

On Sunday I dropped my family off at a kid's birthday party, then continued down the freeway to an outpost of Rasputin Records I'd never visited. Found the first Environments LP in excellent condition for $1 and a Guru Guru bootleg for $3! (Also a Barbra Streisand LP, Stoney End, for fifty cents, among others.)

I've been enjoying the show, Tony.

Want to guess the identity of the record jacket beneath today's cassettes, anyone? If not, I will reveal the answer shortly.
  1:45pm
Dean:

It reminds me of a band whose name I forget, might have had "International" in it, I think, a Gang of Four soundalike...bah.
Avatar 1:46pm
Tony Coulter:

@ Dean: I'm still looking for that bootleg recording of Barbra Streisand and Guru Guru jamming together.
Avatar 1:46pm
Cecile:

I dunno, a Pere Ubu album?

Dean:

Je M'appele Mani
Avatar 1:49pm

Dean has guessed correctly! It is that band whose name he forgets. Actually, it's a Billy Syndrome record called "Vicious Burger": www.discogs.com...
Avatar 1:50pm
Tony Coulter:

... which I've barely listened to, to be honest (got it not too long ago).
  1:51pm
Dean:

Can't forget what I never remembered in the first place.

Would love to jog my memory, though, of that post-Gang of Four band... Something something International ... or ... International something something...

epizootics:

Hello, Tony. Shame I missed a good chunk of the, and I must admit I tried to record the show in advance while I was away at school. The pop-up player must've corrupted or something because it was only taking sputters of musicality.

I think I read about this tape while collecting C.L.E.M. list I did recently. Good stuff.
Avatar 2:10pm
Tony Coulter:

Hey there, epizootics!!
Avatar 2:12pm

That C.L.E.M. list of yours is great! Have already forwarded it to a friend. Here it is for everyone else: rateyourmusic.com...

epizootics:

I've begun to OCR the other scanned copy I could find, filling in some missing artists/labels, shame that's all I could find as of now. I think Mystery Hearsay was going to do a whole project with it but I haven't seen anything come to fruition.
Avatar 2:21pm
Tony Coulter:

I've got a paper copy of the April '86 edition. In fact, it's on a shelf right behind me.
  2:22pm
epizootics:

And (sorry if I'm spamming a bit) I still haven't found a lead on that Profit Motive tape. May have to come on down to Polish Hill and give the rec. store a visit. Or maybe knock on Manny Theiner's door.
Avatar 2:25pm
Tony Coulter:

Yeah, would love the hear the whole thing! Would definitely be at home on this show. Here is side A, in case anyone is curious what we're talking about: www.youtube.com...
Avatar 2:28pm
Tony Coulter:

As I just said, Moms Who Chop is Pat Maherr: www.discogs.com...

This tape might be from '95, as that date is mentioned in the "lyrics."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:29pm
doctorjazz:

moms Who Chop! Cool!
  2:31pm
Dean:

(International) Noise Conspiracy could be the band, although they started well after GoF had made their mark. I was thinking of a band that sorta rode GoF's coattails. Can't find a cover of theirs that reminds me all that much of Billy Syndrome's, so now I'm thinking I'm conflating (I)NC with some earlier band.

This show has been a blast but to have "Magic Fly" too? ::makes chef kissing gesture:: Mwah!
