Live session with Julie Byrne recorded February 11, 2017. Engineered by Ernie Indradat
Julie Byrne  (Interview)   Favoriting     Julie's new album, "Not Even Happiness", is out recently on Ba Da Bing. https://badabingrecords.bandcamp.com/album/not-even-happiness
Julie Byrne  Morning Dove   Favoriting (live on WFMU)    The "working title" of this song was "The Singing of Bread". Love that, too. Julie's website: http://juliemariebyrne.com/
Julie Byrne  Follow My Voice   Favoriting (live on WFMU)    Julie is appearing at Monty Hall 3/30, with Kevin Morby and Waxahatchee. Lucky you if you've already got tickets...sold out.
Julie Byrne  Sleepwalker   Favoriting (live on WFMU)    To my mind, one of the best songwriters around...Deep and beautiful poetry. Not to mention her gorgeous voice... Difficult to choose one song that seems to encapsulate what she's about on this record, but this song may be it. Upcoming tour schedule: http://juliemariebyrne.com/tour
Julie Byrne  (interview)   Favoriting (live on WFMU)    Please buy her albums, whether physical copies or via download. It is crucial to support artists, especially at this time.
Julie Byrne  The Sea As It Glides   Favoriting (live on WFMU)
Julie Byrne  Melting Grid   Favoriting (live on WFMU)    This song is from her first full-length, "Rooms With Walls and Windows", on the Orindal label. It's difficult for me to pick a favorite song by Julie, but this might be it. The Orindal album gathered her first two releases, both cassettes. Lucky you if you have one of those! I don't :(
Julie Byrne  Natural Blue   Favoriting (live on WFMU)    This was the first single released from "Not Even Happiness". If you've never seen her live in concert, go!
Julie Byrne  (interview)   Favoriting (live on WFMU)    The songs from this session will be posted on WFMU's Free Music Archive, hopefully within the next few weeks. Freemusicarchive.org

Julie Byrne  Prism Song   Favoriting Rooms With Walls And Windows  Orindal
Julie Byrne  Emeralds   Favoriting Rooms With Walls And Windows  Orindal

@Sem: Looks like a fresh dusting out there. Cold snap & windy this weekend - Winter coat again. Didn't get Jersey's 70℉ but should be 50's℉ midweek. Could be blizzards into April if it wants to up here, yerknow...

Glad to hear such a beautiful Lief Vollebekk song to start my day Been meaning to check out his new album, which I heard was great.

Jeff Conklin says he was first turned on to WFMU when he was driving around after a late night out and he tuned the dial to 91.1 and you were playing "I Threw It All Away." And he knew he'd found a home.

Sem Chumbo:

Nova Scotia had the warmest February ever recorded, and at the same time, the most snow.
With climate change comes who knows WHAT next.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:04am
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

@Sem: I remember distinctly scientists on PBS Newshour *years ago* saying that w/ higher temperatures & more moisture in the system (melting icecaps) - there would be fewer - but larger - storms. I don't know why this isn't absolutely common knowledge, or wouldn't be accepted on (obvious) evidence if it were. I mean - maybe slightly counterintuitive but not that great a challenge...

Andy in Etobicoke:

We have 3 degrees Fahrenheit here in West Toronto.
Supposed to be 42 degrees Fahrenheit by Monday.
All the ducks are rather confused.

Jeffrey Davison:

Mark, spend 'em while ya got 'em. ;)
  7:11am
Mark R:

It's not accepted or common knowledge because the fossil fuel industry has spend hundreds of millions of dollars funding false studies that cast doubt on the findings of 95% of the world's most respected climate scientists, paying the salaries of mouthpieces who trot around media outlets spewing their lies, and buying most of congress.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:14am
Sem Chumbo:

@RevRAb: yes, indeed. That scenario (the physics of it) follows. We had 140 centimetres ( 35 inches ) in 2 storms over six days. And each came with 50-80 Kmph winds. Blizzards, in fact.
  7:15am
Cooh John:

Right you are, RRN63. "If you aren't apalled, you aren't paying attention." It's appears most aren't even awake. Now, back to the music.

so...... in light of all the obstructions to the truth, what are common citizens doing to promote their own little world-healh situation? how can we change the attitude of our own communities so better care is kept for our immediate environment? aside from pissing in the wind of big money, who obviously doesn't care, how are we as citizens educating people on how to make our own impact less? do we use less packaging? do we buy in bulk? do we avoid using bottled water? small personal steps are still impactful, albethey barely invisible, they still exist.

All well said, annie.
Should you subscribe to the idea that Nature is everything it can be at any one moment, and that humans are not in Nature but of it, then it follows that though our individual actions are small, their effects are cumulative.
More succinctly, as the Mahatma offered, be the change you seek.

i practice minimalism: i re-use ziplocks, i buy in bulk, i avoid styrofoam and plastic, i ask the people at the meat counter to use my bags and leave the paper wrapper off, stupid little things... one thing i've found is that i am not the only "r/evolutionary" out there doing these things...very comforting

...& maybe it's redundant to say so on a 'Folk show' - but always always a special respect for those who bring all the goods w/ such a sparse setup as just one acoustic instrument & one's lonesome...
