I play music that is old and that is new. Some of it is digital while some is analog. It is from many different countries; sometimes it is loud and at other times it is quiet.

I wonder if that teeny elevator goes to the Being John Malkovich universe?

Or is it Mujic?
Avatar 12:15pm

Good afternoon to you too, David! Happy to have you here!
Rickwaukee, Muppets for that Mugic? They must be even crazier than Cookie monster.
Avatar 12:15pm
Mayuko:

Hola, Sam!!! Great to have you here!

I really like all I've heard from this Jamire Williams record. I had a strong negative opinion of solo drum pieces, until I got a Max Roach as a gift when I left my previous job

Yeah, that Jamire Williams thing was rather a fun record.

Is that the opening Yippie Yippie thing for Joe McGasko?

Hi, thanks for tuning in coelacanth∅!!

Of course my confessing doubts about drummers summoned the drummer boss. I repented, Doug, I swear!

Hello Mayuko and folks. Oh yes, Spring cleaning. Inside and Outside.

Well David we have done it. Europe in the rear view mirror.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm

Yes, thanks Mayuko, you are getting me though a major reorganization of our apartment right now! Please send subliminal messages on what to keep and what to throw away...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42pm
David D:

@Brian: Yes, I hope it all goes well for someone. All my British friends here have been freaking out...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44pm
listener james from westwood:

soft Saturday sounds are most welcome! Proofreading going smoothly as a result!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44pm
Brian in UK:

David, have you used it in five years if not, out with it.

The Little Britain attitude is what I detest. We must think back to the last World War and why there was a need for a European Union.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46pm
fred:

@David and Brian: A bunch of EU researchers I know who are in UK labs are getting worried. Nobody knows what's going to happen or when. They get the hit of becoming foreign immigrants plus loss of EU funding
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm
David D:

Brian, wise words on all accounts! In any case, it is particularly difficult for many people here who will be directly affected by it and are unsure about their not-so-distant futures.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm
David D:

Yes, Fred, it is unsettling people and their life plans on both sides of the Channel.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49pm
Brian in UK:

It was posited as a simple question but there were no simple answers.

Five Leaves Left refers to Rizla cigarette papers that warned you when there were five left in the packet. Think Nick D liked a herbal smoke.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50pm
Brian in UK:

Mayuko, guessing that Charles Amirkhanian is an Armenian.
Avatar 12:51pm
Dave B:

Like Peking Duck... It used to be pronounced the same here
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52pm
fred:

People actually say Peking in France, even today
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54pm
David D:

In Germany too, for the record...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57pm
fred:

Thanks to a successful marathon, there is a WFMU for one more year. That's all I need to know
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57pm
Brian in UK:

A John Lennon quote, not sure if it is him but heck. "Reality leaves a lot to the imagination".
Avatar 1:06pm
Mayuko:

@Brian Oh, it was him quoting it from somewhere else? It is actually hard to imagine that it was him inventing that phrase, that must have been just what people would say.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:08pm
Brian in UK:

I agree but still like the quote.
Avatar 1:08pm
Dave B:

I missed the quote... what was it?
Avatar 1:08pm
Mayuko:

Seems like Charles Amirkhanian recorded this in California, he must be an Armenian American? There is(was?) big Armenian community there in the west coast, right? I learned this because I loved William Saroyan.
Avatar 1:10pm
Mayuko:

By the way the description says that this Giuseppe Ielasi track is recorded "to be played at low volume".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:10pm
Brian in UK:

There is Little Armenia in LA.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:10pm
fred:

It looks like Horse Lords are playing with Cloud Become Your Hand tonight in the basement of a bar in Paris. Given the date I was skeptical, but it seems legit, or a very elaborate prank to fool a dozen people. I can't miss a chance to see Horse Lords, so I may have to leave early
Avatar 1:11pm
Mayuko:

@Dave B "Life is what happens to you when you're busy making other plans".
Avatar 1:12pm
Mayuko:

Haha! I hope it's not a prank!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:12pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

Hi, Mayuko and Drummerinos. In case anyone was wondering, there was no Elvis Costello on Michael Shelley's program today.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:14pm
fred:

@Ken: What everybody is really wondering is whether there were oreos waiting for Mayuko today
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:15pm
paul b:

John Fahey has a song called the "Rise and downfall of the Adelphi rolling grist mill" which i think about nearly every day when I bicycle past it on my way to work. Particularly in the spring when it looks especially pastoral.
Avatar 1:16pm
Mayuko:

Ken, I heard some weird thing on his show this morning while I was prepping for my show. An interview with lots of echos and effects and some random questions and answers. Sounded more like a long experimental collage piece. Then again I only heard it partially, so maybe I just didn't understand the context.
Avatar 1:23pm
Mayuko:

Hello, paul b, thanks for tuning in! His music does sound well-suited for spring! It did match my mood this past week for sure anyway.

This Ielasi track is Brycey!
Avatar 1:33pm

@Rickwaukee oh I love that! it did sound like telegraph. or that wire thing. (I know you commenters all told me what that thing was called before, but then I have bad memory...)

Isn't Ideologic Organ Stephen O'Malley's label? So cool that he's releasing this
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

@Mayuko - That was likely Longmont Potion Castle with the sound effects. www.longmontpotioncastle.com
Avatar 1:36pm
Mayuko:

Yeah, this album is "curated" by Stephen O'Malley, though I'm not sure what that means. Welcome on board, northguineahills!!
Avatar 1:37pm

I'll check that out, Ken, thanks! I was so curious but didn't have time to investigate what was going on.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40pm

@NGH: I've been away or drunk for a while (Sonic Protest, you know) so I hope you won't mind if ask again about that nice job you were hoping to get. Any news?

I was wrong, but thanks for playing him. Back when I first found out about YMO, his records were impossible to find, but that was because I didn't know where to look.
Thanks for this, I'm off to see Horse Lords (I hope)
