Greetings from 1968. Going to my first concert in July.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:06pm
David D:

Greetings, Brian - sounds exciting! What will the concert have been?
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 5:12pm
Brian in UK:

A kind of benefit for a Boys Home charity (if memory serves) The Move, The Byrds, Bonzoes, Joe Cocker, and others..It was odd we sat in the orchestra area at the Royal Albert Hall. So all we saw were their backs. First gig.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:14pm
David D:

What a lineup! And what a perspective - how did you wind up sitting there?
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 5:16pm
Brian in UK:

Guess I was late buying tickets and Pink Floyd were not playing.
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 5:18pm
Brian in UK:

It was Gram Parsons last gig with The Byrds.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:19pm
doctorjazz:

That's quite a line up! Think I got to The Band at the Academy of Music first concert I went to, I believe it was New Years Eve 1971 (Bob Dylan showed up for the encores)

Klezmer time, nice!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:19pm
David D:

Definitely exciting times. I didn't realize latecomers were sent to the back - does that still happen?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:25pm
David D:

@doctorjazz: Is that the live recording of the concert you attended?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:26pm
doctorjazz:

Would have liked to see Gram Parsons and the Byrds, or the early version of the Byrds, for that matter (seen McGuinn). The early group had a show at a short lived venue in my Brooklyn neighborhood (which was a strange place to put a Rock venue, at the edge of an orthodox Jewish Neighborhood. Not surprisingly, it folded fairly quickly). I was still a bit young to get to these things, though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:28pm
doctorjazz:

Seems there's a bootleg album of it, found it on Discogs, that was the show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:29pm
David D:

I'll have to track it down and relive your early musical memories... And that is amazing thing about New York, though, you never know what's around the corner.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:30pm
doctorjazz:

Actually, it's not a bootleg, Discogs lists it as Capitol records, I had no idea it was released (It Shall Be Released, someone said).
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 5:32pm
Brian in UK:

I never knew who GP was when I saw him. What I remember best was McGuinn tapping the toe of one foot and the heel of the other. The odd things that stick in the memory.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:40pm
doctorjazz:

Fairport Convention is another I wish I had caught; love to go to the Fariport Reunion in the UK one of these years.
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 5:42pm

Cropredy. Alice Cooper played the other year, went down well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:42pm

Sounds like a field trip!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:45pm

Have a friend who goes on an annual pilgrimage to the Cropredy festival. Jealous.
