Now there's a familiar internet face! Hiya, @coelacanth.

Dean:

John Deere has had a good year.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40pm

digging this set Sam - esp jaimie branch
  10:42pm
Dean:

A year ago, around $83/share. Closed today at almost $114.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:43pm
coelacanth∅:

(actually i spoke too soon; this is just as amazing)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:45pm
Sam Segal:

Two great Chicago jazz acts...although Branch recently relocated to NYC, but it's all Chicago musicians on that recording.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:49pm
Sam Segal:

You heavily invested in John Deere, @Dean?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:52pm
coelacanth∅:

i haven't opened the mail regarding my one stock in quite a while. i don't want to know. i quadrupled my investment (at least) in the first 5 years - but last time i opened the update, last year some time, it was worth about 1/2 what it'd been a few months before.
  10:54pm
Dean:

Nope. I'm risk averse (although I was once licensed to trade commodities). Won five bucks as a minor running around the old MGM Grand Hotel in Vegas c.1976. Vowed never to return, and I haven't. Once gained a few hundred bucks playing options, and forever abandoned the practice. The system is dying to get that money back from me. Suffer, creeps.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:01pm
coelacanth∅:

i don't take a lot of chances with money - not that i hold on to it tightly either...but my investment was a sure thing, in my mind; and in the unlikely worst case scenario, i made $6000.
(- i bought $3000. of shares c. 2001, and on 3 separate occasions sold $3000. worth of shares.)
  11:04pm
Dean:

Almost forgot: I also bought a scarce Joy Division single/EP for five bucks, sold it for $150. Long ago--I was there during the '87 crash--I worked for Merrill Lynch. Left a very bad taste in my wallet.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:06pm
coelacanth∅:

wow! did you know when you bought that record that you could sell it for a profit?
Avatar 11:07pm
Mayuko:

Good evening, Sam and all.
  11:08pm
Dean:

I bought the Joy Division because I thought I wanted it, and in fact it turned out to be the only JD I could tolerate. But I didn't genuinely want to keep it, so I unloaded it at my buddy's store.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:10pm
coelacanth∅:

hello Mayuko!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11pm
Sam Segal:

Greetings, @Mayuko!
Avatar 11:12pm
Mayuko:

Hope you're having a good evening, coelacanth∅! Wish I could tune in earlier but here I am and this Patrice Scott is so good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13pm
coelacanth∅:

right Dean. (now i'm curious what it was but i don't know joy division all that well anyway)
...i used to buy lots of records. it's become a small albatross now... but i never bought anything i didn't want to listen to.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:17pm
coelacanth∅:

i hope you are too Mayuko!
-i'm okay but struggling to choose between focusing on finding a new housemate, or focusing on finding a new house. (apartment, room, whatever)
  11:20pm
Dean:

It was the Sordide Sentimentale package of "Dead Souls." I only buy stuff I don't want to listen to BECAUSE I don't want to listen to it, e.g., Barry Goldwater's campaign speeches.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:26pm
coelacanth∅:

dead souls is one of my preferred jd songs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35pm
Sam Segal:

Things are getting a little spooky over here, folks! Turn on your flashlights, light your candles!
Avatar 11:35pm
northguineahills:

I'm a JD junkie. My college gf got me JD tee-shirt back in my freshman year of '94 which is still barely hanging on. I used to have a JD bumper sticker on my first car, and have everything on original vinyl. Not my favorite pop band, but one I dig.
  11:38pm
Dean:

Was gearing up to hear them live in LA c.1980. Standing on line at the premier of Kubrick's The Shining at Mann's Chinese on Hollywood Blvd., we heard that IC had offed himself. That took care of that.

Todd Rundgren was in line, too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40pm
coelacanth∅:

that was spooky - and Awesome!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:45pm
coelacanth∅:

i've never disliked any joy division, but i rarely have wanted to listen to a whole album through.
there's one song that sneaks into my brain now and then and stays until i listen to it a few times. i can't think of it now while listening to Anna Domino, but i do think it might be "dead souls".
Avatar 11:50pm
northguineahills:

Now I want to listen to Jah Division, the best Brooklyn Joy Division inspired dub band,,,,
  11:51pm
Dean:

There is something so exquisitely right about that pun.
Avatar 11:53pm
northguineahills:

True, true, Dean. They were fun while they lasted.

If I don't get back before midnight, thanks Sam!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55pm
Sam Segal:

Thanks for sticking around, @NGH!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55pm

jah division?! i'm intrigued!
