Nice, haven't heard this Los Lobos album in a while.
Ready to Park here for a bit, hi!
Avatar 12:04pm
glenn:

and will you be playing slayer today, miss underwater?
Avatar 12:05pm
glenn:

los lobos is easily the loudest concert i have ever attended, oddly enough.
Avatar 12:05pm
βrian:

Slayer? What about Möist?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:06pm
Meghan:

Nope.... sorry.... no metal today....
Avatar 12:07pm
KP:

Just heard Nick Lowe somewhere elsewhere. We're halfway there
Avatar 12:07pm
βrian:

I heard that about Wilco. So loud that folks had to get out. Is it the case that touring bands sometimes hire local sound board people?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:08pm
doctorjazz:

I went to see Wilco last year in Brooklyn, didn't see louder than a rock concert ought to be from my recollection (not that it was QUIET...)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm
doctorjazz:

(the actually did end on a quiet, acoustic set, but that's not the same).
Avatar 12:09pm
βrian:

Yeah, I was surprised to hear that report from friends.

The friendly underwater dudes on your playlist archive page have me recalling another friendly (we hope) underwater dude just seen above-water at a local kite-fest last weekend.

Stranded LP not one of my Roxy favorites, but that's a good track I haven't heard in forever.

Avatar 12:33pm

Jerry Hall on Sirens cover. Marilyn Cole on Stranded. That's not in my head trivia vault....I had to look because I never can keep all the Roxy cover model whichwhatchamawho straight.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34pm
Meghan:

Who were the 2 on the cover throwing spears?
Avatar 12:38pm

Flesh and Blood...."The front cover models are Aimee Stephenson (at the front) and Shelley Mann; the model on the back cover is Roslyn Bolton (her modelling name was Ashley)."
Avatar 12:38pm

Marie Hoy sounds great, as do Friends
Avatar 12:39pm

That cover-music piece has one of my new favorite items of understatement, referring to Kate Muller's marriage to "Chris Jagger, whose brother has fronted a popular beat combo since the 60s."

a sordid past?

A bunch of my friends had Dave Herlihy from O Positive as a professor at Northeastern. Met him a few times-- really nice guy!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm
Meghan:

Aren't all teenager pasts sordid?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm
Meghan:

Woah! What did he teach?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04pm
The Oscar:

Audio recording, if I recall correctly. A friend once enlisted me to record a Daniel Johnston cover for one of his classes, and I'm told he was impressed!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04pm
The Oscar:

Also the record store I used to work at in Cambridge had a ton of sealed O Positive LPs-- if you ever find yourself up here, I'd almost guarantee they still have some.
Avatar 1:05pm
glenn:

i grew up on a farm a million miles from anywhere. my past didn't really become sordid until i finished high school and got a car. still a teenager, but only barely.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:07pm
Meghan:

Oh what record store.... I was just up there for Mom's day.... though didn't get into the city. I had found a bunch of records in a store on the border of Allston, near the Paradise....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:09pm
The Oscar:

I was at Planet Records in Harvard Square (formerly of Kendall) for many years. Sounds like you were at In Your Ear-- great store!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:10pm
Meghan:

It's been so long, I forgot all the names.... I used to always hit Mystery Train... that was my favorite
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13pm
The Oscar:

Alas, Mystery Train Boston is gone; they still have stores in Amherst and Gloucester, though I don't think they're actually affiliated with each other anymore. I grew up in central MA, so the Amherst store was the hub of my musical education.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:16pm
Meghan:

I was curious if the one in Gloucester still existed. The singer from Gigalo Aunts worked at the Newbury St. location
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:19pm
The Oscar:

They moved down the road a few years back, and the new space is actually ENORMOUS. It's really funny how many Boston music legends still work the stores-- Jeff Connolly from the Lyres and Peter Prescott from Mission of Burma worked at Looney Tunes right up until they closed. I think Barrence Whitfield might still work at the Record Exchange in Salem.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:21pm
Doug Schulkind:

Salem 66 once crashed at my friend Dan's parents' house in Athens, GA. Hi Meghan!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:22pm
Meghan:

Hey there Doug! I'm now itching to go record shopping....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:24pm
Doug Schulkind:

The famous Jerry's Records is two blocks from my house. Just sayin'.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:24pm
Meghan:

Road trips!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:27pm
The Oscar:

Honestly, I'd recommend just about any of the older shops in the Boston area-- a lot of this stuff is both plentiful and cheap up here!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28pm
Sean from Bridgeport:

Jerry's is a sight to behold!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm
Uncle Michael:

My boys!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33pm

Never got to see Scruffy, sad to say (Moons of Jupiter is an all time favorite of mine), but was lucky enough to see the Del Fs twice. Terrific live band.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:36pm
The Oscar:

@Parq Scruffy the Cat was scheduled to play the TT the Bear's anniversary show a few years back, but cancelled at the last minute (for reasons that would soon become sadly obvious). Great show anyway, though.

Avatar 2:00pm

Boston record store talk made me think of Michael Fremer's bits and parodies for record store ads on WBCN in the 70s. Now I learn he went on to become a noted audiophile writer and evangelist for vinyl, among other things. One article about him starts: "This is Michael Fremer. He's listening to "Avalon" by Roxy Music on his $350,000 stereo system."
Avatar 2:01pm

See ya. Thanks.
