Favoriting Hinky Dinky Time with Uncle Michael: Playlist from June 9, 2017 Favoriting

Uncle Michael's avatar View Uncle Michael's profile Favoriting

Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

Another interesting steel player is Mike Perlowin. Almost exclusively classical. Has recorded the Firebird Suite, is currently working on Dvorak's New World Symphony

a steel guitar firebird suite? i will hunt that down and consume it.

For reasons I choose to keep to myself, having the Nairobis come on the radio at this particular moment is a marvelous bit of coincidence.

BJ Cole's Transparent Music features steel guitar performances of Debussy, Satie, and Ravel.

Yes,it IS. :)

I think Rameau would go well with the steel. For some reason, the Lawrence KS NPR station is fond of the lesser-known Frenchman

E.g., keyboard suite transcriptions? Or the big whoop-ass operas?

Michael Carabello thing going on, on this Hey Joe, eh?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:05pm

Every Joe I've ever worked with eventually tired of me yelling the first line of that song to them.

Did they all eventually show up with a gun?

For years...maybe still..I couldn't shake the image and title of the MB big one as "Knights in White Satin," and I think that silly-ass Ajax TV ad with a white knight had something to do with it., although in my image there was more satin-stylin' frippery for the knight.

Yes. I mean, "Yes, VP, Genesis is one of those bands." Not "Yes is one of those bands."

I could make the argument for Alice Cooper, post-original band, but that's just the purist in me. Still love Alice, but the original Alice Cooper Group...whoa

Well, shoot, Allman Bros.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:32pm
The Oscar:

Seems obvious, but Pink Floyd? It also seems like the BeeGees should count, even though there was no lineup change that I'm aware of.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:33pm
Lane Gray:

Dean, some of each. Mike has worked with orchestras, and built stuff up with multitrack
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:33pm
Uncle Michael:

I think Alice the singer quit Alice the band and went solo...not really a redefining of a brand. I think the Allman's just evolved through personnel changes and the brand remained the same. Also nice that they never stopped trying and just coasted.
Avatar 2:33pm
