Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:46pm Ike:

Do youse folks know about machine-y things? I am not skilled in the industrial arts, but I managed to put my new AC into the window. The old one died after only 2 yrs. There's an overhang on my bldg. & when it rains, lots of water can pour down. Does my AC need a... hat? Or something? To cover its top vent? Is lots of water going in there, uh, bad?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:48pm Michael 98145:

- i suspect water flowing thru any electrical appliance is a bad thing. but i could be wrong. -
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:49pm Michael 98145:

@Ike, were there instructions ??
Avatar 3:50pm northguineahills:

One of my A/C window units is 15 years old and still works and is open to the elements. It does need a about 5 degrees of tilt so any condensation will drip out, but rain shouldn't be a problem.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:52pm Jaina Bee:

ready to sweat!
  3:52pm Dean:

AC rain

...and you'll get a bunch of results from HVAC companies insisting that rain will not damage your air conditioner unit.
  3:55pm McGreivey:

Heat, schmeat. I'm spending July in New Orleans.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:55pm ɨkɛ:

@Dean, ah, Google knows everything yet again! I should've thought of that. 75% of the time when I have a computer problem, Google solves it for me. You just have to know the right way to phrase the question.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:55pm steve:

is the book Electri-City? i saw that book at the record fair, grabbed it, was ready to buy it but put it back for a second and someone moments later picks it back out of the box, flips through it and buys it before i can pick it back up. totally forgot about it til now.
  3:58pm McGreivey:

Oh. And is this fuzz guitar day? I just came is 5 minutes ago. I was vacuuming.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:59pm Scott Williams:

Hey Steve! Yup, that's the one WANT. Yo McGreivey! Comin' back to the fuzz before long
  3:59pm Dean:

Toilets, too, @Ike. I've found helpful adjustments on YouTube for toilet repair. And flat screen remote codes. And releases for locked automatic transmission. The latter is also covered in the car's manual, which we all read, right?
  4:00pm rw:

Hey Scott, this talk of WFMU library has my son and me wondering how many records you guys are housing over there. We're thinking at least 50000.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01pm ⓔⓘⓚ:

@Michael, instructions don't mention that part IIRC, but I'll check again. They *do* mention needing the tilt that NGH mentions. Can't tell if I've got it tilted enough. Maybe I need a protractor. LOL.
Avatar 4:03pm northguineahills:

Good to see schaffel beat resurrected, although to be fair, T Raumschmiere did some over a decade ago.
Avatar 4:04pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

yay. Long history with the Hawklords LP.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:05pm steve:

New Jersians, im visiting family in the Cape May Exit 0 area for the rest of the week, anyone know of anything to do around there?
  4:06pm Dean:

Isn't this album called 25 Years On? First Hawklords?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:07pm Scott Williams:

@Dean, you are correct
Avatar 4:07pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

I've seen it listed w/both titles...
Harvey Bainbridge on bass, pre-synths...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:08pm Scott Williams:

@steve, I think the horseshoe crabs may be mating on the bay - thousands of em!
  4:08pm Dean:

Huh, maybe the title varied. Saw them w/ Calvert as Hawkwind in Hollywood just prior to Hawklords. Fantabulous.
Avatar 4:09pm Chris from DC:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:10pm steve:

YES this is the kind of thing Scott. sit and read and watch a horseshoe crab invasion.
  4:11pm Mark Williams:

funny, The Anti-Group did a 12" called Big Sex around this time as well.

Oddly, that Hawklords LP managed to get me through 7th grade. t'was a new-ish release at the time. Old rev.

Haven't read in full, but New Yorker's upcoming issue features a long piece on prog rock: http://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2017/06/19/the-persistence-of-prog-rock
  4:21pm Dean:

Not a promising skim. Near the conclusion: "Nowadays, it seems clear that rock history is not linear but cyclical." Oh, okay.
Avatar 4:22pm northguineahills:

I'm in, @common - anyone want a spoiler from last night? It's a good 'n!
  4:58pm McGreivey:

I like this Exp Aud Rsch track, except that it sounds to much like the sound my vacuum cleaner put through echo and other effects. That's not quite a complaint.
Avatar 4:58pm Cheyenne:

@Scott & @common - I'm watching it and trying to withhold judgment until the damn thing is over! Honestly a little worried that the whole thing is gonna be an infomercial for Transcendental Meditation, haha
  5:00pm McGreivey:

On the other hand, Laure Briard does not sound like a household appliance. Well, except a radio, obviously.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:04pm common:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:05pm common:

@cheyenne: i hear you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:05pm Scott Williams:

with you, Cheyenne! and a little nervous it might be more Inland Empire and less Eraserhead and Lost Highway
Avatar 5:06pm fred:

@McGreivey: I've had a couple of conversation about vacuum cleaner music on this station's playlists (probably Bryce's show). I once saw a great set on vacuum cleaner by Pierre Berthet
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:06pm common:

Yep, Scott. Still, though...
Avatar 5:06pm Cheyenne:

@common there are a couple doozies (and one VERY quotable quote) in this week's episode - better than last week, I think.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:07pm common:

@cheyenne: I'm ready!
Avatar 5:08pm fred:

I might be the only one thinking this, but I like Inland Empire better than Eraserhead
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:08pm Scott Williams:

vacuum cleaners are really fun to play - they do sing!

@fred: i like them both. My favorite is still mulhulland drive.

Vacuums & reverb sounds like the earliest Iggy & the Psychedelic Stooges...

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:16pm Scott Williams:

Ike & Cheyenne, we should talk...
  5:17pm McGreivey:

This and a couple other similar Wire trax c.1979 always remind me of a Syd/ Pink Floyd bootleg obscurity sometimes called One in a Million. Is it in the recent box set? I haven't investigated that.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:34pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

*UM: It is. Death on Acid as whisperingly creepy rather than immediately shocking. (It was only John's 2nd trip - & a Mum who died tragically early was actually something he shared w/ PeterFonda, if they'd gotten that far...)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:34pm common:

@scott: always welcome!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:35pm steve:

i loved Inland Empire but i saw it on the big screen at a theater... i probably wouldn't have liked it as much on a tv or small screen
Avatar 5:36pm fred:

@steve: that makes sense to me. Inland Empire is the last fiction movie I saw, in a theater when it was released
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:43pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Hi, Scott and happy listeners.
Avatar 5:43pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Interesting, Fred. Without realizing it, I've weaned off nearly all fiction movies -- did the same with books ages ago. Music is all the fiction this brain gets. Or is there a fiction/non-fiction musik?

Avatar 5:54pm fred:

@RTD: I'm back to reading fiction, but actually I'm only after style, the story itself only becomes a factor if I find it annoying. I'm in a classics phase: Brontës, I finally read Middlemarch, maybe Austen soon
Avatar 5:54pm Sem Chumbo:

Likewise, RevRab. And happier for it.

Thanks for all the spins, Scott. Been fun, fun, fun. See ya next time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:55pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I forget what a peerless companion, educator - & escape - Reading is. This is a bit shameful.
Avatar 5:55pm geezerette:

Haven't read fiction for years either, recently realized I can hardly bother to watch movies either. Think it's do to with the loss of film culture in general. The lack of a sense of community surrounding it.
