Evening Kris and all! Really diggin' the Marquee club circa '63 mod groove you're laying out here
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13pm
Funky16Corners:

Love the Patty and the Emblems

Doug Schulkind:

Halcyon jamz!

Kris Holmes:

Marquee 63 Dan!, don't make me find my Georgie Fame & Zoot Money records hahaha. I was never "Mod" (unlike Misa) but I have all the 45s!
Avatar 10:26pm
geezerette:

This music is so sophisticated and joyous. Really love the energy.
Avatar 10:27pm
Kris Holmes:

nice, glad you are digging it. New Orleans at it's finest on this Professor Longhair 45!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:28pm
Funky16Corners:

I just pulled Georgie's 'Preach and Teach' out yesterday, and second the love for 'Big Chief'
Avatar 10:29pm
Kris Holmes:

Georgie Fame has so many great cuts
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:31pm
Little Danny:

I'm such a snob when it comes to mod stuff, and I need to get over myself. I honestly don't think I've ever heard a record by either Fame or Zoot Money
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:31pm
Funky16Corners:

Great vocal R&B and soul and stellar Hammind stuff, too
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:31pm
Funky16Corners:

Zoot's Live at Klooks Kleek is a killer
Avatar 10:32pm
Kris Holmes:

Dan, WTH? Dude!!
Avatar 10:32pm
geezerette:

:) !!! the way this builds.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:33pm
Funky16Corners:

I got heavily into soul/soul jazz during my years on the garage/mod scene. Lots of friends that were hardcore mods were a big influence on my tastes
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37pm
Little Danny:

Haha. I'm weird.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:38pm
Little Danny:

Larry, I seem to remember a far bit of UK mod cats on some of your mixes over the years
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:39pm
Funky16Corners:

That would be an astute observation. I was never a mod but that sensibility runs deep.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:41pm
Little Danny:

I kinda prefer this Rickey Calloway version to the Soul Dynamics original, which is almost too aggro for my tastes
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:41pm
Little Danny:

Totally with you on that, Larry
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:43pm
Funky16Corners:

Just posted the Shotgun Express this week
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:44pm
Funky16Corners:

BTW this Vibrations version is a fave
Avatar 10:45pm
Kris Holmes:

Hi there Michael. Dodgers just starting...... It seems every Tuesday "Cubs Win"??
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53pm
Funky16Corners:

The Mets need to stop playing these West coast teams unless they're all going to be day games
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:56pm
Uncle Michael:

no, not every Tuesday...I wish

west coast trips are brutal
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:58pm
Uncle Michael:

Brewers lost...Cubs are a 1/2 game out of first.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59pm
Little Danny:

This Na Allen is new to me and totally great
Avatar 10:59pm
Kris Holmes:

Avatar 11:05pm
Kris Holmes:

both versions
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:05pm
Uncle Michael:

Ah, reissue. What an fascinating backstory on this record...or near lack of one!
Avatar 11:08pm
Kris Holmes:

yep, well, the original demo only existed on tape, so it's technically the original 45 heh. The Supremes on Grog is the full group version I have which actually was a 60s release.

Kris Holmes:

such a great story
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:17pm
Uncle Michael:

I couldn't pick Ryan Gosling out of a lineup.
Avatar 11:18pm
Kris Holmes:

i would struggle
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19pm
Uncle Michael:

I woefully disinterested in current popular culture. I know the shit that seeps in without my consent.
Avatar 11:21pm
Kris Holmes:

That song was honestly the best thing about that film, otherwise boring
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25pm
Uncle Michael:

My disconnect from popcult burns me. Example: I think AC/DC's "It's a Long Way to the Top if You Want to Rock and Roll" is a monster. This spring when the season starts at Wrigley, they blasted it when the players raised the banner and walked out carrying the trophy. Albert Almora Jr. is singing along. I think this is cool as shit. Someone had to tell me he probably knows it from "School of Rock" and I'm like "oh...damn".
Avatar 11:30pm
Kris Holmes:

Ha
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32pm
Uncle Michael:

I'm calling it a night, Kris. Play me out for another half hour, ok?
Avatar 11:32pm
Kris Holmes:

Goodnight! Will do.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35pm
Uncle Michael:

Thanks, mate. Night.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:36pm
Little Danny:

Ah, the Sapphires. So damn dreamy
Avatar 11:37pm
geezerette:

Wow, never heard of the Lamp Sisters but what a record!

Sapphires, gorgeous.
Avatar 11:38pm
Kris Holmes:

I'm fairly certain I have more than one copy of this Sapphires 45, it's definitely in another box I've opened recently
Avatar 11:39pm
geezerette:

Dreamy, exactly, that otherworldly sound quality.
Avatar 11:39pm
Kris Holmes:

I love that Lamp Sisters 45, the slow intro & then kablam!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41pm
Little Danny:

@geezerette: SUCH a unique sound. Like a lo-fi girl group that secretly wants to be a wall of sound production. Also, hi!
Avatar 11:44pm
geezerette:

So much talent! Kris, Danny, UM if you're still awake, glad for all you social anthropologists,

Danny, exactly my thoughts. Hi to you as well!
Avatar 11:51pm
geezerette:

Great Xtra raunchy version.
Avatar 11:52pm
Kris Holmes:

yeah they overdubbed horns & re-released it for some reason??!!
Avatar 11:54pm
geezerette:

My husband, the sound engineer, just said,"Wow! whata great recording". :)
Avatar 11:55pm
Kris Holmes:

ha, cool!
Avatar 11:59pm
geezerette:

Thanks Kris, fabulous show!
