Hello, Marcel! nghills, indeed Kurt and Dave both do! Irwin certainly does, Rev!

Spacemen 3 were/are a favorite! I was scheduled to do an interview with them back in 1989 or thereabouts when they didn't actually make it to the USA! Dammit!

believe it or not spacemen 3 did some gigs in there short career - I vaguely remember seeing them but i cant remember what dimension i am refering to

It reminds me, I need to renew my Wire subscription. I've read it cover-to-cover since '96. Due to some personal/family setbacks, I've only advanced to April 2016.

hi Daniel and bluminauts
Avatar 9:54pm

it was when I getting out of my indie-rock dungeon, and exploring music of all genres, and was the only rag that vibed w/ me in that direction. Three years later, I found a tinny WFMU stream, and the rest was history.

I would say this Yearnin Kru is out of place for Planet Mu, but Mike Paradinas has visited this territory many times.
Avatar 10:15pm
northguineahills:

I'd rather someone new discover The Wire. All signs point that I'll probably get the job I desire, and I like having the print & digital together. The print for reading while traveling or reading at a bar, the digital for research (seriously folks, if you're into researching music of any genre, at any level or complexity, the Wire digital subscription is invaluable).

Glad you're enjoying, steve! ngh, a geographer, eh?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:33pm

@steve I now know your avatar is a four-eared cat but I always sort of assumed you photoshopped devil horns on your own kitty.
Avatar 10:35pm

true.. true, Daniel. Got a MA for my trouble. I only spent 16 years in Brooklyn. Unfortunately, outside of crappy few weeks/months tech jobs or 6 month /1 year gov't jobs forced me to relocate where the cost of living is more forgiving and a job more rewarding while my wife still is in our apt in Bushwick. Hope to make it back to nyc before the end of the summer. (my parents had some health issues as well)
Avatar 10:35pm

would if i could melinda! though id sooner give them halos probably.
Avatar 10:36pm

@melinda & steve: I never noticed the horn/ears in the avatar (I won't go into the etymological cognates or ear or horn).

Halos would be cute.

I had a friend back in '97 that was in a good band that received negative review in one of those "alternative" music magazines that so affected him that he quit music altogether, which was a shame, b/c I dug the band.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:39pm
melinda:

@cklequ that's sweet. I'd like a pic of my deceased cat with one, too. Devil horns are funny, though.

@melinda - She was a whiny little monster, and drove me nuts. But 6 months after she died I still walk through the door expecting to see her. That's deserving of a halo.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:43pm

ngh, coming for a visit you mean? Hola, Jack & cklequ!

@cklequ I love cats but they can be a pain in the ass, too.

oh and btw did anyone see Yves Tumor live in BK at Villains this winter? that guy did a wild show, and it was practically industrial ambient rap. nothing like the PAN studio release but pretty primal and fun

There's a somewhat symbiotic relationship b/tn The Wire and WFMU. If you dig WFMU, there's a good chance you'll dig them.
Avatar 🌫 Swag For Life Member 11:09pm

The Wire is worth it just for the free discs and downloads.
(you can get the old discs for 50 cents on discogs, but you didn't hear that from me.)

...it's so weird that you seem like an X-Mutant when you try to tell people they don't have to stick to Genres or commercial radio for Music - like having to tell them they don't have to eat @ just McDonald's for food: Really?? I have to convince you of this?...Just stop going...
