Happy Second of July, Nate!

Sem Chumbo:

Hello, and good morning, Nate, KP.

Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...sounds like 25 O'Clock for the U.S.A...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:16am
Nate K.:

Hi, folks. I'm really excited about today's show. My guest brought some crazy obscurities and serious jams. It's going to be great.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:18am
fred:

Good morning Nate, KP, Sem, RevRab and other listeners

Rock And Roll Capital of the World, The Forest City, The Plum City, The Mistake by the Lake...place Moses Cleveland went to...well, I'm tapped.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:55am
fred:

Is it true that NJ is celebrating independence day by shutting down its government, including parks?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:59am
Nate K.:

They are indeed shut down, Fred.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:00am
ultradamno:

And Maine is just shutting down.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:03am
fred:

Well, Maine's governor is one of the few that make Chris Christie look good in comparison
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:06am
ultradamno:

Yes. He is the worst (and I'm from the state that gave the world Mike Pence and the two Dans - Quayle and Burton)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:06am
Nate K.:

Yeah, that guy in Maine is noxious.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:14am
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Nice SmallFaces impersonation (in a non-sarky tone).

Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

There is something satisfying - & intriguing - about regional no-hit wonders that really do have something to offer. & even the glaringly unprofessional things maybe have that charm of a scene one might actually have known - like audio yearbooks or snaps; it takes it to your neighborhood...60s have more plangent resonance for me, but 70s are certainly a very long time ago...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:28am
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Listening to Jason Elbogen's program - he often played what I termed 'Suburban Gospel'...opened up finally to those records everyone else would leave @ the thrift store...can be quite a window...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:29am
Nate K.:

@Revo, great take. I agree. I also enjoy the notion that on some level, for a lot of these artists, the idea that maybe, just maybe, they'd have a hit and be rich and famous was always a motivating factor.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:30am
fred:

In a way the regional thing even holds in a place as small and centralized as France. I wouldn't have thought it would years ago, but the Bordeaux scene, the eastern one, and others are strong and important. Though it's often actually a few people
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:32am
Nate K.:

@Fred, what kind of stuff is/was coming out of the Bordeaux scene?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:32am
fred:

@Revo: Jason is doing a rare fill-in for D:O radio on the drummer stream right after this show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:36am
fred:

@Nate: mainly around the Potagers Nature label, bands like Api Uiz, Chocolat Billy, Radical Satan (noise/DIY/pop/rock weirdness), but also quiet elaborate stuff like L'Ocelle Mare. As often, it was more about people coming of age at the same time when there was a space for them to meet, play, and evolve
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:05am
ultradamno:

Hey it's Bevo, I know that guy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:07am
fred:

This No Parole track is pretty neat
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:09am
Nate K.:

@Fred, the whole comp that that tracks appears on is solid. Outside-the-box punk and hardcore from early-80s Cleveland.

Enjoying this morning's music, and conversation, doubleplus. Thanks for being here (there), Nate and all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:30am

I agree with that statement about Pere Ubu and The Electric Eels
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:35am
Nate K.:

@Ultradamno We''ll let Cremo Coyle handle that one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:36am

Thanks, Sem.

This is such a great song. I'm unlikely to ever set foot in Ohio, but at least I know how to say the name
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:57am

Will someone play Frank Drebin's version of the star-spangled banner at Daddy Garbage's BBQ

John Morton has said that he and Dave E thought the eels would be a big hit.
