"Effluvium" an unpleasant or harmful odour or discharge? Nice

Good evening from the 7th Heaven. If anyone is taking bets, my money is on hearing some Neil Young before the show is over.

Oh boy...we're gonna be in for a treat if you're already playing some Agitation Free. Can't wait to see what tracks become unveiled.

There may also be a strict legal requirement that the Grateful Dead be heard on this show each week.

I watched all of the very lengthy Long Strange Trip doc last week. Well worth watching, though damn sad too to witness (again) Garcia's decline in plain sight...

The complete annotated Grateful Dead lyrics by David Dodd notes that Hunter remembers the 1949 flood in Vanport, Washington while writing this song. Must be a typo, thought Vanport was in Oregon.

love this already
  1:08am
JakeGould:

Hey! I don’t comment much here, but on vinyl… Yeah! I’m like 100% digital now but bought a basic turntable to listen to bargain vinyl when I can score it… But the irony of ironies? Someone in my building has a CB radio setup really close to me. So sometimes when I listen to vinyl, I hear the equivalent of the adults from “Peanuts” talking.

And this is despite me soldering capacitors in the diodes on the power supply; that helped lessen the interference but it still comes up.
Avatar 1:10am
Jeff Conklin:

Records are fantastic. I love them, I will always buy them but I'm never spending more than 20 dollars on something I can easily hear elsewhere. But hey thats just me. That's crazy about the radio interference! Who uses CBs??
  1:12am
JakeGould:

@JeffConklin: Who uses CBs? That’s what I said. I live in a weird part of Brooklyn where there are no antennas on the roof… But for this one guy’s CB antenna… And there are ex-cops in the neighborhood so it’s like their “cultural hobby” thing I cannot fight. Decent rent but shit…

Not gonna lie, I think its pretty cool this guy is using one hahaha.

When a group of friends and I travelled up and down the East Coast seeing an American rock band in the 90s, we communicated between the two cars in the caravan via CB radios
Avatar 1:20am
Jennifer_PNW:

This is awesome, Jeff! The artwork on the bandcamp page is beautiful.
  1:23am
JakeGould:

CBs are cool. But these dinks near me are as boring as hell. What I have made out is basically them just endlessly comparing notes on their setups and saying “One two three four… One two three four… One two three four…”

Comedy = tragedy + distance… So hey! Enjoy it.

Ronny G from JV:

This song was used in courage the cowardly dog years ago I think. I'm 80% sure

CB dinks 1-2-3-4ing each other and interfering with your electronics are probably running illegal overpowered setups. The FCC might be interested in checking them out.

Breaker Breaker 19 - Mr. Conklin, what's your handle? Mine was, King Cobra. My brothers: One-Hoppin Kangaroo : ) this was late 70's / early 80's. CB's and shortwave radios are still a thing.

Roger McGuinn said in the old pass-the-hat days on the folk circuit, you never wanted to follow Richie, because he was so good, everybody would put everything they had in the hat for him, and there was nothing left for anyone else the rest of the night.
