Right back atcha, Mike. Yes, Beavo, that's the "Kind of Blue" band.

One of the few gigs with Evans.
Avatar 3:07am BEAVO:

Usually Red Garland or Wynton Kelly in that period.
Avatar 3:12am BEAVO:

Too bad Miles wasn't in the Jazz on summers day Film at Newport.

Seriously, I'm having a lot of technical issues here. Every time I try to play a cassette, there's trouble. Then I'm having trouble reading these labels. Why don't you guys put numbers next to the track list on every album?! Jesus--it's like they're TRYING to make us make mistakes. Have mercy on the DJs, we're trying to HELP you.
Avatar 3:44am joeray:

Cassettes are probably the worst format for a DJ to deal with when any special cueing is involved.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:44am Fuzzy:

Playing cassettes on the radio -- hardcore, man.
  3:45am mark r:

Didn't work out, Fuzzy. Never does. Worked in cue. Didn't work for real. Never again, I say.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:46am Fuzzy:

I know too from experience -- cueing up cassettes is a real hit-or-miss thing. Too often it's a miss.

Ode to L.A. While Thinking of Brian Jones, Deceased

I’m a resident of a city
They’ve just picked me to play
the Prince of Denmark

Poor Ophelia

All those ghosts he never saw
Floating to doom
On an iron candle

Come back, brave warrior
Do the dive
On another channel

Hot buttered pool
Where’s Marrakesh
Under the falls
the wild storm
where savages fell out
in late afternoon
monsters of rhythm

You’ve left your
to compete w/

I hope you went out
Like a child
Into the cool remnant
of a dream

The angel man
w/ Serpents competing
for his palms
& fingers
Finally claimed
This benevolent

Leaves, sodden
in silk

mad stifled

The diving board, the plunge
The pool

You were a fighter
a damask musky muse

You were the bleached
for TV afternoon

maverick of a yellow spot

Look now to where it’s got

in meat heaven
w/ the cannibals
& jews

The gardener
The body, rampant, Floating

Lucky Stiff
What is this green pale stuff
You’re made of

Poke holes in the goddess

Will he Stink
Carried heavenward
Thru the halls
of music

No Chance.

Requiem for a heavy
That smile
That porky satyr’s
has leaped upward

into the loam

Seeing some new names I haven't seen before along with some old favorites, glad to have you all with us this a.m.

Here it is:
an animation for WDR-TV from 1965

I never recognized until much later that I own the "soundtrack".
  5:04am IFisher:

I'm a serial lurker. Love your show, Mark. I typically catch the last 45 minutes each week.
  5:05am mark r:

Really cool, Guido--so that was on a European television station? IFIsher, glad you're enjoying, nice to have you with us!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:12am Guido from Cologne:

WDR (Westdeutscher Runfunk), radio-Ty-Station in Cologne. Official TV used to be run by a union (ARD) of Country-based station, refecting the Federal strukture of the republic.
WDR represents the North-Rhine-westphalia.
  5:13am mark r:

Got it--cool. Our local news station in Detroit used to use the music from this one segment of "Cool Hand Luke" as their theme music every night.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:15am Guido from Cologne:

WDR was pretty innovative at the time:
Eductional programmes (also for immigrants),
introduction of Sesame Street (even the US original),
lots of culture,
and quite a lot of Jazz
and some Rock ("swinging in" series, find it on YouTube).

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:37am Santos L. Halper:

Hi Mark. Strange but nice to wake up to your show (in a different time zone for a little while). Those cats last set could play fer sure. Haven't heard this one in a while...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:38am Guido from Cologne:

"The Soft Parade" I guess ..
  5:40am markr:

OOPS! Add it to my list of mistakes tonight.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:42am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Love thedoors (not shared w/ all FMUvians...) - but haven't heard this in a while - cheers!
  5:46am markr:

This might be the first time I've played them on my show. Maybe one other time. Haven't listened to "The Soft Parade" in years. Sounded pretty good this morning. I think they were great, too, but they don't wear well. A little goes a long way. If I haven't heard them in a while, I always enjoy them, though. (1st album is the exception--I'm down for that one any time.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:49am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- yeah the 1st. A little more than average drink helps too :) ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:49am Guido from Cologne:

Thanks to the Doors' lyric book I became aware of some good humor in Morrison's song texts.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:52am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...altho' in their short time I don't think there's a *bad* album...not everyone agrees. Some people like BillyJoel - just wunna those things...
  5:52am markr:

Yes, Rev--in keeping with the state of mind of the composer. And Guido, I agree--people take Jim too seriously. Especially Manzarek.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:54am Guido from Cologne:

Right time to say:
thanks for the beautiful morning show Mark!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:55am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I mean - you'd have his voice if you could. Didn't look too bad sometimes either...put on a pretty good show sometimes too I hear...
  5:55am pBerlin:

i used to be so sick of LA Woman. but when you hear it now its absolutely great. really well constructed.
  5:56am markr:

I've enjoyed being with you all tonight. Thanks for your patience through all the technical snafus. Have a great holiday, my fellow Americans, and to my friends around the world, have a wonderful week--see you next week!
