  1:25pm Listener Robert:

Huh...flash flood warning for NY County. Where does it ever flash flood in Manhattan? Serious question. Or does the National Weather Service just have a formula that says, a river is upstream from there, it's raining hard there, so the Hudson could overflow its banks suddenly?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:26pm steveo:

@RObert www.google.com...
Avatar 1:27pm Tito "Pepe" Infidado:

No sé lo que ocurrió antes, pero ahora que Pepe está aquí permite romper la maldita Cruz de Kamikaze!
Avatar 1:28pm Diane Kamikaze:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm steveo:

AFAICT it's usually a combination of high tide, strong onshore winds , and lots of rain.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30pm chris:

  1:31pm Listener Robert:

Right, but that's not a FLASH flood, steveo.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33pm chris:

doesn't 'flash' refer to the speed at which the water rises?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33pm steveo:

oh hm I just read the NWS statement they say it'll be due to heavy rain combined with poor drainage; thanks for setting me straight .
Avatar 1:34pm Chris from DC:

Digging this set.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35pm steveo:

agree; this set rocks
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:43pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Hi, Diane. Missed Voivod, but I can offer a Darwin Award contestant. www.bbc.com...
Avatar 1:44pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

what it is!
Avatar 1:46pm Diane Kamikaze:

I've been on that beach, @KFHP! It IS a little extreme, even for me. I love planes, flying in, watching, jumping out of, but ye must fear the plane!
  1:55pm dug:

flash floods happen all the time in hoboken back by the shop rite.
if i had a car parked over there this warning might save my bacon.
i have seen the water over there rise 2 ft in the 30 mins i was in the store. this happened about 6 weeks ago. i had to trudge through it to get back to my place
  1:56pm dug:

and it only took like 1.5" rain to make it happen. granted it all fell in like half an hour. at high tide the sewer is below the level of the hudson river so there's nowhere for the water to go.

Avatar 2:03pm Wild Neil:

PEACE all. Flash flood warning for Buffalo NY area...
Avatar 2:08pm Wild Neil:

I moved to NY in 1988 I think. Tried being a bike messenger the first day. Some dude broke the frame on it while trying to steal it. The bastard.
  2:09pm dug:

huff my sack
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:10pm Rich in Washington:

I see that Lumpy and the Dumpers are playing in my town next week.
Avatar 2:20pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Lumpy & the Dumpers do deserve all the waffles, on the strength of their name alone..
Avatar 2:24pm Cecile:

should I be happy because job duties were taken away from me because I suck at them, or be unhappy because I suck at the job duties that were taken away from me?
Avatar 2:25pm Cecile:

I still have a job, so I guess I'm happy. I get more duties to replace them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:26pm Rich in Washington:

The first, Cecile.
  2:26pm dug:

could be worse. im sitting here trying to write cover letters :-(
Avatar 2:26pm Diane Kamikaze:

Did you like doing said duties, even though you may have sucked at them?
Avatar 2:27pm Cecile:

No, I did not like the duties at all, but they added a lot of value and would be a good resume line.
Avatar 2:27pm Cecile:

Good point, dug.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:28pm Ken From Hyde Park:

The key to holding a job appears to be embracing duties that makes one irreplaceable.
Avatar 2:29pm Cecile:

Or at least difficult to replace.
Also, it burns me to the core that I am a woman who is bad at math.
Avatar 2:30pm Cecile:

oh, well, I still have a job.
Avatar 2:34pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Being a (self-professed) master of a skill-set that is increasingly irrelevant, it's like watching inevitable rot crawl up the leg -- hoping I can make it to retirement (or early death) before the rot catches me. And the skills/duties that would stop the rot are NOT appealing in the least.

This means being the only one good at a thing, but opportunities are very few. So when this gig dries up, Rev is dead in the water.

Meanwhile, we ROCK.
Avatar 2:34pm Cecile:

Right, then!
Avatar 2:34pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Also: good luck C.
Avatar 2:35pm Cecile:

Thanks, everyone!
Avatar 2:37pm Cecile:

Now off to a boring meeting, where I can do what I was born to do...take kickass minutes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:37pm chris:

khan academy has awesome free learning stuff for math, Cecile, if you're interested... my motto, " i suck at almost everything, so i keep learning... and try to suck less at something"
Avatar 2:38pm Cecile:

Also Horrendous are awesome.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:38pm alanj:

can't there be a wrath of khan academy?
Avatar 2:39pm Cecile:

I know math OK, I just have bad ADD and math anxiety which leads to a sucking outcome. I actually tested out of most of freshaman math about 5 years ago in a nontimed test for school.
Avatar 2:39pm Cecile:

damn! I love this song!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:39pm chris:

Avatar 2:45pm Polyus:

Oxbow = definitely the best show I have seen this year.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:45pm Michael 98145:

Meanwhile, we -do- ROCK.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:49pm Michael 98145:

Cabaret !!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:51pm G:

Clay Pigeon started off my morning with this tune!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:52pm Rich in Washington:

this song is on the shortlist of songs to jumpstart my brain if I'm ever in a coma.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:53pm Rich in Washington:

It's also one of the first songs I ever downloaded off the internet.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:57pm Michael 98145:

thanks again, DJ Diane
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:58pm chris:

great show! thanks, DK!
Avatar 2:58pm V Priceless:

thanks for the swell sockless rockin', DK! Cheers!
Avatar 2:59pm Wild Neil:

This version of Brownout is pretty awesome...it sounds like the guys that made the Mission Impossible theme did it....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:59pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Thanks, Diane. Stay dry!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:00pm Michael 98145:

- if the Hudson rises, avoid areas of imperfect drainage -
