Sun. Dec 22nd, 3pm - 5pm:
The Unsolicited Return of the Winter Soul-stice (fill-in for Paul Bruno)
(More info...)
You can't stop the seasons from turning, and you evidently also can't stop an old dog from performing his one old trick. Answering the teeming clamor of one New York Times food columnist
, Gaylord Fields is returning to WFMU's airwaves for a one-off Winter Soul-stice program. In his time away he's learned nothing, so the format will remain the same: two hours of original 1960s soul 45s, and the abuse of an expensive reverb machine for the sake of corny vocal effects.
I feel like I can't get a lot of younger people to grok the relevance of the yARdbiRdS. All respect to the Stones - the yARdieS taught us Guitar - especially Blues Riffs. (For one thing.)
@melinda: They also rivaled TheBeatles in pushing towards Psych & Prog - & all before Hendrix arrived in the UK. Of course they're a cornerstone Garage influence.
i think it's great that he won an oscar for portraying bela lugosi, who wouldn't have won one if the academy consisted of nobody but his friends and family.
I agree this is lovely. I first heard this tune on a National Geographic collection called Music of the Ozarks that my family had, and it always made me a bit sad.
Great show, even postponed Twin Peaks to listen with the second hour! Hey Gaylord also wanted to thank you for playing the Tages a while back. I went on to cover their song (one yellow, one red, one blue) at two performances now and it's been really fun! Might have never heard of them if not for listening in!
