Narrow escape here at Casa Parq -- the moment we've been dreading, the kid got trapped on a dead subway train. (For those of you not in the NYC area, that has been happening a *lot* this summer.) Fortunately, they were able to evacuate the train relatively quickly and without injury.

Avatar 6:01pm

Cruise ships are purgatory. Wherever they go they're parked one after another for miles. It's like every 15 minutes an entire city invades your town, buys the same things, asks the same questions, behaves the same way, and leaves. Locals resent it but economies depend on it.

Bill you are wise to avoid cruises. Regarding their impact on local economies, the ones that come here bring some $ but not as much as people think. They often take buses to neighboring towns with shopping malls and outlets.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:08pm

My pal plays bass in a band on a cruise ship in the Caribbean. He says the buffets are piled high with fancy foods, far to much for the passengers to eat so tons of it gets thrown overboard every day.

I can't wrap my head around what appears to be very successful annual progressive rock cruise, Cruise to the Edge, sponsored by Yes. I loved attending Yes concerts in the '70s, even one (1976) in Las Vegas (last time I've ever been there). But a cruise?!

There's two Yes groups out there now. Both are legit, apparently
  6:28pm
Dean:

The Cruise? Or F&FU? Either way, yes...a thing!

@VP, Maybe it doesn't beat standing on the buffet line with Jobson, but I had a beer with Peter Brotzmann at a Vision Festival, and stood next to William Parker at adjacent urinals at the same festival!
  6:32pm

Pablo Cruise should have a cruise.
  6:33pm

Eddie Jobson could make a huge retirement out of doing cruises and reunions with all the bands he's played in.

My wife was also a big T Rex fan. Deborah is Tyranosaurus Rex before the abbreviation. I was in One Stop Records in London circa 1972 asking about a new record and this little fella in ballet pumps and loons carrying Chuck Berry and T Rex albums tells me info (incorrect as it turns out) about the record. Yes it was Bolan. My wife was not happy when I told her years later.
Apart from both of them both wanting to be stars so urgently, Bowie had the talent to keep it going.

Cruises, schmoozes. These people have to do something cause if you take away Hip Hop and autotune there is nothing left.
