sneaking in early to say howdy on the other Big Green Monster!
Avatar 2:01pm northguineahills:

I see james is keeping it Boston...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:06pm listener james from westwood:

Went to school up there, Boston College 87–91, so I've got a teeny bit of experience. Haven't been there in way too long. Expect much of what I knew from back then is rebuilt and unaffordable.

Funky good Carm
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:16pm The Oscar:

@James I'm out in the townie-end of Somerville, which is still pretty real and affordable, but otherwise you're mostly right (though Allston, while overpriced, is comfortingly resistant to attempts to clean it up).

Heebie Jeebies!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:26pm Matt F:

Lewis- that's Robert Ward.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:27pm listener james from westwood:

IIRC one of my fellow copy editors is up in Somerville and enjoying it a lot. Good to see Allston's holding out on such efforts.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:27pm Lewis:

thanks Matt!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:28pm listener james from westwood:

Whoa, hey, happy birthday, Nate!
  2:29pm frenchee:

Did Iggy hock a loogie?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:44pm Nate K.:

I remember when this Motorhead record came out. It was surprisingly awesome. Still is, too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:44pm drr:

Are we still talking about Boston? I lived on Causeway Street in an illegal loft 30 years ago. We had to throw our trash out by pitching it from the fire escape into Dunkin' Donuts dumpster.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:49pm The Oscar:

@drr That is the most Boston thing I've ever heard. Years ago I lived in an apartment in Brookline where the landlord had some sort of falling out with the sanitation department and we had to pile our garbage in the foyer for his handyman to collect. A few years later it was gutted by a mysterious fire. Now it's luxury condos.
Avatar 2:49pm geezerette:

the Queen
Avatar 2:52pm northguineahills:

No offense, but every time I've visited Boston, it seemed like the Florida of the northeast. I enjoyed visiting my friends there, but considering how much culture emanates there, I must have always been unlucky. (I'm originally from and currently live in FL)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:58pm drr:

The Oscar: yeah, this was right across the street from Boston Garden, above McDonald's and a karate school. We had the elevated train tracks running by our window like the Blues Brothers. I think it's some kind of modern plaza now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:01pm Uncle Michael:

Great Trini track!
Avatar 3:02pm northguineahills:

Crap, missed Trini Lopez.
Avatar 3:03pm geezerette:

Man, this show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:03pm Doug Schulkind:

Gotta make a run to the dump. Need to make room for more lobstah shells. Thanks for the high-protein/octane audibles, Mr. F!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:03pm Uncle Michael:

Every week, geez...every week.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:04pm Uncle Michael:

Doug, you need to talk to your gastroenterologist.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:06pm The Oscar:

@drr Yeah, they changed that over a little after I moved into the city-- I actually kinda liked the old raised platform. I think the McDonalds might still be there, though.
Avatar 3:06pm geezerette:

UM, true!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:08pm Doug Schulkind:

Here in genteel New England, the dump is called "the transfer station."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:09pm Uncle Michael:

I gotta go make a transfer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:09pm drr:

Ha, my Boston house mate was a bike messenger, and one snowy day he came home and said "I took a dump in a puddle." Before I could ask what he did that for, someone explained it was bike messenger talk for slipping and falling.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:10pm Uncle Michael:

Rain delay! More Fiveash!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:10pm The Oscar:

Carl Perkins sure recorded a lot of songs about the terrible things you're allowed to do to him.
Avatar 3:11pm Mailman Tom:

Carl Perkins sure could swing!
Avatar 3:11pm geezerette:

Avatar 3:13pm geezerette:

I knew a black beatnik who turned me on to Mose Allison.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:38pm Artie:

Mick Collins sings a mean version of "Smashed".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:38pm The Oscar:

My mom would keep a Mose Allison tape in the car at all times. His voice pretty much always brings me back to my childhood.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm drr:

I hope you've heard Alex Chilton's cover of "What's Your Sign, Girl?".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:43pm Matt F:

That's where I heard it first!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:54pm drr:

same. His cover of You Got A Booger Bear Under There on the same record is great too.
Avatar 3:56pm geezerette:

Fantastic show,Matt.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:58pm listener james from westwood:

Thanks mightily, Matt, and enjoy your vacation!
