Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24pm JP from KC:

Hey everyone! I was just remarking to someone about how strange and disappointing it is that all those protest songs from the post-war 40s and the late 60s suddenly seem just as relevant as ever.
  12:27pm fdny john:

thanks for commenting on the disgusting fascists whiners trying to incite hate eveywhere. billy bragg singing woody guthrie is just perfect. and listening to glen campbell all week has brought me back to a lot of great memories. keep 'em spinnin' joe!

Avatar 1:15pm Lewis:

GC on guitar! that explains a lot actually
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:20pm Hoboken Jack:

Hey Dennis! Charlie, listen to "Pleasant Valley Sunday" and you'll get a pretty good sense of West Orange. I am still quite troubled by the lack of a North Orange.
  1:21pm lloyd michigan:

Sinatra ruined a lot of songs.
Avatar 1:22pm Joe B:

even glen campbell couldn't save them
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:23pm coelacanth∅:

  1:37pm Dungaroos Kipawah:

Tremendous tribute!
  1:41pm BriJet:

Hello Joe! Hi all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:51pm Uncle Michael:

Just a sensational tribute today, Joe. I knew to leave the full enterprise to my betters.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:51pm coelacanth∅:

damn. 5 years. sad story Joe.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:56pm coelacanth∅:

did Glen and Roy Clark ever have a dueling guitars type of thing on hee haw?
  1:56pm Hackensack Slim:

Hey Joe,
Great tribute to GC. Thought I heard Buck Owens chiming in on that Hee-Haw performance. (Which would make sense.)
  1:57pm ChrisB.:

Glen recorded his live album at the Arts Center in Holmdel. He was at the peak of his popularity.
Avatar 1:57pm Joe B:

he introduced him.

re roy - i think i saw one on youtube
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm doctorjazz:

Who'd a thunk GC was involved in so much music, all sounding so different (not just the romantic stuff I think of)...at least, I wouldn't have known, thanks Joe!
Avatar 1:57pm geezerette:

That Hee-Haw excerpt was incredible! I did not properly appreciate the man in his lifetime.
Avatar 1:57pm Joe B:

did not know that chris
Avatar 1:58pm northguineahills:

you're doing the good dark lord's work, Joe! (not sure which that one would be).
  1:58pm Tracy Walsh:

Foo Fighters cover?! Amazing!
Avatar 1:58pm Joe B:

the hee haw clip is on youtube, recommended viewing
  1:59pm bill:

wow... What is it Scrooge says? something like "Nobody ever told me!"
  2:00pm medson:

I hate when work gets in the way of me listening to your show
Avatar 2:01pm D. Lightfoot:

medson: I've been reading the same paragraph for an hour
Avatar 2:03pm D. Lightfoot:

Wow, I had no idea he did this tune
Avatar 2:04pm steve:

the covers are so good
  2:04pm medson:

@dlightfoot that's what I'm doing for the next hour
Avatar 2:04pm D. Lightfoot:

Browne was 16 when he wrote this
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:05pm coelacanth∅:

heh, i'll refrain from quoting Tonio K right here
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:05pm Dominick:

Late to the party, but digging Glen
  2:07pm Cooh John:

@coelacanth (/): I saw Glen and Roy play guitars together. That is each strummed or fingered the other's guitar. I can't remember which. I saw it 50 years ago. Guitar virtuosity. Better than Mr. Big attaching picks to a cordless drill.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:07pm Parq:

Glenn's "These Days" is flawless, heartbreakingly dead-on. He gets to the heart of what that song's about in a way that even Jackson himself fell short of.
  2:07pm bill:

correct Scrooge quote: "I don't know anything."
  2:07pm cat:

wow this show is TOPT
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:08pm Tommy in Neversink:

The Greg Allman cover of THESE DAYS is THE version
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:09pm Tommy in Neversink:

At any rate......absolutely fantastic show Joe...a classic
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:11pm Hoboken Jack:

Tremendous tribute, Joe -- thanks so much!!
  2:12pm Dungaroos Kipawah:

Some tremendous footage of Glenn, "high on life", is the Carson show on which he's the A guest and the others on it are Rickles, Dom DeLuise and Jimmy Breslin. One of the all-time tops, I watched the whole show a few months back after Rickles kicked. Glenn noticeably starts to drift into his own world as the show progresses or devolves and Rickles keeps reminding him and the audience of that. Essential viewing. They can't make tv like this anymore
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:13pm coelacanth∅:

Cooh John i'll see if i can find that

Parq Glen's voice is certainly more beautiful than Jackson's, but i admit i like some Jackson Browne, despite my Tonio K reference. (esp the earlier stuff like that one)
  2:15pm Dennis Diken:

Frank Z - PF Sloan came up with the "Secret Agent Man" riff (he wrote the tune - originally titled "Danger Man")
Avatar 2:16pm Joe B:

pf also came up with the intro for california dreamin! but was left out of the wreckign crew movie due to feud with tommy tedesco, according to him
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:17pm doctorjazz:

Not sure I need to weigh in here, but each of the above versions of These Days (Nico, Glen, Greg Allman, and Brown's) bring something to the song and I like them all...I guess that's what makes a great song.
Avatar 2:18pm Joe B:

great point dr j!
Avatar 2:18pm Joe B:

thanks everybody, appreciate it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:18pm coelacanth∅:

true, doctor.
  2:18pm Michael:

The Sadies , great.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:19pm coelacanth∅:

i need to get my ass back to work. Thanks Joe!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:21pm charbird:

Hoboken Jack: Thanks for the tip on "Pleasant Valley Sunday"! That's the Monkees song, correct! Do you know who wrote that song? If you bother to have an east and west part of town, why not add north and south?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:21pm Parq:

People shouldn't read too much into my, or anybody's, praise of a particular version of a classic or standard song. I never said, and do not think, that the original and all other covers of that song are lame.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:22pm Hoboken Jack:

Who is Quin Galavis? Love this!!
  2:22pm Cooh John:

Watched a recent interview with Alice Cooper on Glen. Another facet revealed of the rhinestone cowboy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:23pm Hoboken Jack:

Charlie, correct, the Goffin/King composition -- that's the street they lived in here in town.
Avatar 2:25pm geezerette:

@Dennis Diken@2:15: Danger Man was an early British spy show. Youtubes of it, think it's McGoohan...pretty stylish stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:25pm charbird:

Joe B: Great show, Joe! I didn't realize that Glen C was such a good guitar player, and didn't know about his rock roots. Thanks for putting this together – masterful, as always.
Avatar 2:27pm Joe B:

jack, quin is an austin texas based cat who was a tourign member of swans, and in a few austin bands before launching a solo career. he is great
Avatar 2:28pm geezerette:

ditto charbird!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:28pm charbird:

Hoboken (West Orange, not North Orange) Jack: Wow, great bit of music history there. When I'm back in Jersey, let's cruise West and East orange – maybe Joe B will let us borrow his car!
Avatar 2:29pm Joe B:

if we're going to star tavern, i'm driving! (it's in north orange, i mean orange)

  2:40pm McGreivey:

There have been so many great from Rochester. Unfortunately, very few have gone beyond local.
  2:41pm medson:

These remind me of the Brown Acid series from Riding Easy Records.
Avatar 2:41pm jljl:

you are on it jack! and 2 ex-members of palomar
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:54pm Hoboken Jack:

You'll enjoy this: So somebody bought me one of those Alexa things, and I guess they're always tweaking the software. I used to be able to say "Alexa, play WFMU," and the station would come on. But at some point, giving the same request, it started playing a sample of Tris's song "WFMU."
