  9:11pm Andy:

First time listening live in over a year. Happy to be here!
  9:11pm JakeGould:

Oddly slow on the comments overall tonight. Makes me feel like I’m missing a protest.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:11pm efd:

well I don't count, so you get fourths Alex.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:11pm Greg from ZONE 5:

  9:11pm Julie M:

I was just admiring that nice rusty background color you have for the comments board, efd, but now it's all messed up, so hi all!
  9:13pm hxcc:

Alice donut did a really good version of this.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:14pm steve:

Avatar 9:14pm herb.nyc:

Hi all. Nice Stamey song, and it quickly reminded me of his "something came over me". I wonder why. Mayb bec I love slow sensitive poop.
  9:15pm Julie M:

There's a lot of good tracks on that Epic Donovan collection, including a favorite of mine, "I Love My Shirt."
  9:17pm cheri:

hey evan and all, btw efd when will you have your disco dance party?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:19pm efd:

next week cheri
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:19pm Alex of Chicago:

always loved the go
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:19pm efd:

hey steve, nice to meet you at Monty Hall the other week!
  9:21pm medson:

I'm so psyched for next weeks show. Tonight's as well but you know what I mean.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:22pm steve:

hey, you too efd!
  9:23pm Julie M:

Wow, Evan, can you really do a whole show with the solar eclipse theme?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:25pm steve:

alright ive set an alert on my google calendar for next Weds show
  9:26pm JakeGould:

I like the phrase, “Path of Totality.” I will use it as the new term to describe someone desperately running for the bathroom at a party.
  9:26pm P:

"Wrapped up like a douche..." One of the best misheard lyrics ever.
  9:26pm medson:

This version takes me back.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:35pm BennettCap:

"We got-ta live together!" Say it over and again.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:41pm Alex of Chicago:

Kinks ✓, disco ✓, eclipse ✓. Ready for next week.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:41pm chad from oregon:

Wrapped Up Like A Douche, also repeated for emphasis, though a few notches less so.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:44pm Joe D.:

"instagram weekend with you" damn thats too real
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:44pm chad from oregon:

Remember when it was only last week when all the talk was about imminent nukes taking out Guam and the west coast? Has it even been a week?
  9:46pm JakeGould:

Guam tourism is gonna go through the roof! You know those “Meet Me in Montauk” tattoos? It’s gonna be “Meet Me in Dededo” in a few years!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:46pm Mister Dobalina:

Could you imagine an Instagram weekend with Evan Davis? If so, how would it play out?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:47pm Mister Dobalina:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:48pm efd:

I was gonna say...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:51pm chad from oregon:

Evan Davis played Wicket the Ewok, I believe.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:52pm Alex of Chicago:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:52pm Kat in Chicago:

EFD's playlist, now with more Chicago listeners. Dangit I'm out of town next week and will be at some weird experimental show in Montreal at disco dance party time.
  9:53pm JakeGould:

I envy Chicago’s hot dogs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:53pm medson:

i've dusted off the platforms for next week
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:55pm Kat in Chicago:

We are pretty good at hot dogs
  9:55pm JakeGould:

Not so great with pizza tho. Deep dish? Nope.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:57pm Alex of Chicago:

Chicago has a pretty great thin crust, actually. You see it outside the loop, especially on the south side. Cheese on top, cut in squares, and sometimes a crispier crust.
  9:59pm Julie M:

But Alex, do you support the deep dish?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:00pm Alex of Chicago:

It's not usually my thing, but I'm not a native.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:00pm BennettCap:

@JakeGould "Path of Totality" was me at a Sherwin Williams in Manhattan last week. Those poor paint store people.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:02pm Kat in Chicago:

The deep dish at Pequod's is a thing of beauty. Not a big fan of the style otherwise.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:02pm Bob in Oakland:

My copy of the Shifters single came in the mail a few days ago. 201/300.
  10:03pm Julie M:

How many Tristan Davieses are there? Well, maybe a few. So Welsh.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:04pm Alex of Chicago:

Burt's Place in Morton Grove was pretty great too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:04pm efd:

ooh, good to know Bob!

Julie, that's why I was so surprised! Not even that many Tristans, relatively speaking, let alone Tristan Davieses
  10:05pm herb.nyc:

Do the Davies siblings have cool middle names too? From Funk to Punk to Junk to Thunk to...
  10:06pm Julie M:

If you remember or don't, I too am Welsh, Evan.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:08pm medson:

I just listened to this Male Gaze record before your show. NICE
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:09pm efd:

@Julie I had forgotten that! But here's a shocker: Several years ago I learned that I am NOT Welsh after all! Needless to say I was crushed to find that out.
  10:10pm JakeGould:

@efd: Did you take some DNA test? I think I’m going to do that myself to figure out what kind of Eastern European mutt I am.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:11pm efd:

it turns out there was an adoption somewhere up the line, so Davies is the adopted name of some great-great-great grandparent. An uncle did some genealogical research a while back and made that discovery.
  10:12pm JakeGould:

Well, wow!
  10:14pm Julie M:

What? Aw, gee. But wow.
  10:15pm Andrew Benintendi:

My jam, bro
  10:31pm JakeGould:

As long as this band is named “Midtown Sizzler” I’m going to say: Some band needs to name themselves, “Beefsteak Charlies.”
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:32pm Kat in Chicago:

I think that is the album name but it would kinda rule as a band name
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:32pm efd:

no, no, no, the band is Stag! The ALBUM is Midtown Sizzler!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:33pm Kat in Chicago:

brb, forming band
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:34pm efd:

p.s. Kat and Alex please continue mentioning good food spots in Chicago as I am going to be there at the end of next month
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:35pm Kat in Chicago:

oh yeah??? there are so many good food spots. whatcha looking for and what area?
  10:36pm JakeGould:

@efd: Okay… I still say “Beefsteak Charlies” has some potential. That and maybe “Hygrade.”
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37pm Alex of Chicago:

oh boy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37pm efd:

@JakeGould I don't disagree
  10:38pm JakeGould:

We are right on both sides!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40pm efd:

@Kat I guess probably Wicker Park but I think we'll be checking out other neighborhoods too. I guess restaurants near used record stores? :D
  10:41pm Carmichael:

Heya Evan. Finally get a friggin minute to chime in. Keep on a rockin me baby.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:42pm efd:

hey there Carmichael!
Avatar 10:43pm BnowB:

I'm sorry but I'm not even gonna try to re-arrange anything for her or him. I've had enough.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:44pm medson:

@efd Thats how I like to plan things too. Around used record stores
Avatar 10:45pm BnowB:

Hello Folks :) haha :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:45pm medson:

hey BnowB
  10:46pm Carmichael:

I used to go to a Sizzler in midtown.
Avatar 10:46pm BnowB:

hey medson
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46pm Alex of Chicago:

@efd Food tends to be good where there are records here. but i don't get out enough to make the best recommendations
  10:46pm Stevel:

efd: If you're near the Tribune building, go under Michigan Ave. to Billy Goat Tavern. More than being the inspiration for the SNL "cheeborger" bit, the cheeseburgers are terrific (double is better) on Kaiser rolls. Also, no fries.
Avatar 10:47pm BnowB:

@stevel I thought that was Rutts Hutt on Rt 3 in .. Clifton maybe?
Avatar 10:47pm BnowB:

"no coke, pepsi"
  10:49pm Stevel:

It's also a baseball history site, being the origin of the curse on the Cubs (now broken. )

Avatar 10:50pm BnowB:

"ageing raver" reminds me of "little raver" by superpitcher; the names.
Avatar 10:53pm BnowB:

efg has the best bed music in the game! ;)
  10:53pm Carmichael:

Oooh, I know Rutt's Hut. Go there NOW.
  10:54pm Kat in Chicago:

In Wicker Park I like Doves Luncheonette, Antique Taco, Piece (pizza and their own excellent beer)
  10:57pm Carmichael:

Who makes that ripper dog? My memory is gone ....
Avatar 10:58pm BnowB:

I been so loving this tune :) aces "living in a straight world"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:00pm medson:

you guys are making me hungry : )
  11:01pm Kat in Chicago:

Longman & Eagle in Logan Square is another fave, Michelin starred. No reservations but wait is usually reasonable
Avatar 11:01pm BnowB:

Rutts Hutt chili is so good and on the hot dogs; sweet Jesus.
Avatar 11:01pm BnowB:

my teenage stride ' living in the straight world not on youtube.. is it rare or new?
Avatar 11:02pm Buckshot LeFonque:

Newbie to WFMU, and former Chicagoan here (WZRD used to be my freeform jam). efd, if you find yourself in Lincoln Square, you gotta hit up Laurie's Planet of Sound for records and Gather for grub.
  11:02pm JakeGould:

New York City hot dogs really suck. Don’t care if it was invented in Coney Island, they are just crap nowadays.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:02pm efd:

  11:03pm Kat in Chicago:

As for record stores, Lauries Planet of Sound in Lincoln Square is fun and I know a bunch of people there. Logan Hardware is good, relatively new
Avatar 11:03pm BnowB:

ty @efd love it heard it once on wfmu and looked for it then too... ty
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:04pm Alex of Chicago:

Seconding Laurie's, but it's the closest to me
Avatar 11:04pm BnowB:

found it on band camp :) sweet
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:04pm Alex of Chicago:

Permanent Rex is closing. Not sure what the last date is.
Avatar 11:04pm Buckshot LeFonque:

Agreed, Kat. Plus it's always fun to stop by the Old Town School down the street from Laurie's.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:06pm Alex of Chicago:

  11:47pm ice in Bklyn:

@bnowb--reality is a grape!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:48pm Alex of Chicago:

by the time i got here, the cubby bear was booking jam bands. but i'm aware that it was different earlier
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:49pm Kat in Chicago:

@johnk yep. Wrigleyville was once actually a place you wouldn't mind spending time in. now it's a shitshow even off-season. and my beloved Smart Bar is just north of Wrigley so I'm actually in that neighborhood a lot on late weekend nights... oof
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:49pm Kat in Chicago:

Lights in Wrigley Field ruined everything!
