Postwar atmospherica. High bop modernism and Afro-Latin sounds, twilight exotica and soundtrack moods, soul stompers and weepers, hypnotic R&B and blues, mystical '60s pop, lonely country, lonelier rock 'n' roll, instrumental weirdness, electronic creaking. Bringing worlds beyond into the worlds at hand.

Avatar 10:29pm still b/p:

Uncle Michael, a follow-up thought after comment references last night: to Nuages and Melancholy Serenade, add yet a third number linked by similarity -- If He Walked Into My Life, the song from Mame that was a big Eydie hit.
Avatar 10:34pm hyde:

haha fair enough! Lata Mangeshkar *and* Asha Bhosle are still alive, which is sort of amazing
  10:39pm MrFab:

kinda Alex Chilton-y, this.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40pm Uncle Michael:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:58pm Doug Schulkind:

@Little Danny
I was just listening to Hit the Bongo about 7 minutes ago. Guess I'll leave it off the playlist!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:58pm doctorjazz:

I'm gonna have to kock out now, been fun.
  10:59pm MrFab:

this is like Tito goes Esquivel!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59pm doctorjazz:

'konk out", that is...
Avatar 11:00pm Little Danny:

Doug: incredible! We love each other is the reason why, and communication is entirely telepathic henceforth
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:01pm Doug Schulkind:

I was just thinking the same thing!
Avatar 11:02pm Little Danny:

I know
  11:06pm Dean:

Telepathic? You want telepathic? I listened to this show in 2003.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:08pm Uncle Michael:

Those of you who've already listened to tomorrow's Hinky Dinky Time, keep it under your hat.
  11:09pm Dean:

I can assure you, UM, that there will be no spoilers.
Avatar 11:10pm Kris Holmes:

hahahaha, "inappropriate wedding songs" is the theme for next years pledge drive mix
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:10pm Uncle Michael:

Thank you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11pm Uncle Michael:

It's konkin' time por moi, aussi.
Avatar 11:12pm Dano59:

  11:13pm Dean:

Schlafen Sie gut, UM.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13pm Uncle Michael:

I'll still be listening.

Thanks, Danny.

Night all.
Avatar 11:13pm Little Danny:

Hi Dean!

UM: Konk yourself out. Hear ya tomorrow AM
Avatar 11:14pm Kris Holmes:

huh, i actually have a couple of records off that UK glam comp.
Avatar 11:15pm geezerette:

soothing sounds of lurex.
  11:18pm Dean:

Again telepathic, @geezerette, I was just thinking how this show is "soothing balm" (an exact quote of my thoughts) for the moment.
Avatar 11:19pm Little Danny:

Thanks Dean!
Avatar 11:19pm geezerette:

Cheers to that,Dean!
  11:21pm MrFab:

Is this album where you got your 'welcome to the club' music Danny?
Avatar 11:22pm Little Danny:

Nope! That's Sarah Cantine's "Feeling Good" 45 I use.
Avatar 11:23pm geezerette:

So happy to be a barfly at this friendly fictional watering hole.
Avatar 11:24pm Little Danny:

Me too, geez. So happy to be the bartender around here
  11:25pm Dean:

It occurs to me that the explanation is, as we should appreciate, materialist, rather than telepathic/transcendental. "Cool Blue Flame" rhymes, orthogonally, with "soothing balm."
  11:27pm Dean:

Just as Gabor Szabo rhymes with Zsa Zsa Gabor.
  11:28pm MrFab:

When I was a teenager, I had to go to the orthogonist to put braces on my teeth.
Avatar 11:28pm Little Danny:

Tell me more about these orthogonal rhymes. Sounds numerological
  11:28pm Dean:

It's my thing. To me, "hambone" rhymes with "clambake."
Avatar 11:29pm geezerette:

Gabor Szabo. :)

Dean, but I like telepathic/trancendental better just now...oh, and olives.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29pm Doug Schulkind:

Never heard this one before and I ♥ it. Smiley Winters is a Bay Area legend.
Avatar 11:30pm Little Danny:

Oh yes, Doug. That whole LP is terrific.
  11:30pm Dean:

I love all of olives. (My daughter's name: Olivia.)

Every good orthogonist, @MrFab, will instruct you to floss daily, from ear to ear.
Avatar 11:31pm geezerette:

I hope Smiley earned his name being cranky.
Avatar 11:32pm geezerette:

Oh, Olivia is a very pretty name.
Avatar 11:33pm Little Danny:

Such a lovely name!
  11:34pm Dean:

Thanks, @geezerette and @Little Danny. Even if it weren't, she's pretty enough herself to...ready?...transcend it.
  11:35pm Pete from Melbourne:

Hi Danny and listeners, late coming to the party, well early afternoon down here, looks like I just missed one of my faves Gabor Szabo, will catch the show latter when the audio gets put up
Avatar 11:35pm geezerette:

Digging "Stargazer".

Nicely tied together,Dean. And sweet too.
Avatar 11:36pm Little Danny:

Hello Pete! Two nights in a row! I'm honored
  11:37pm melinda:

Nice set here.
Avatar 11:38pm geezerette:

Seamless segues abound,Danny.

Pete from Melbourne! Good to "see" you!
  11:39pm Pete from Melbourne:

well Danny do enjoy your good taste and eclectic choice of material, always discover something I haven't heard before.

And hi Avatar geezerette: nice to see you too
Avatar 11:40pm Little Danny:

Thanks Melinda and Geez! Means a lot to me
Avatar 11:42pm Little Danny:

Looovvve is the reason
Avatar 11:44pm geezerette:

Love this song I've never heard of.
Avatar 11:48pm geezerette:

No small feat.
  11:50pm Dean:

I came late to Little Feat. Saw them live, with Lowell George, opening for ELO. It was impressive, despite my nonchalance. Now I live about four blocks from a stereo store run by one of the engineers of the double LP live album Waiting For Columbus, one of LF's finest. Hanging with him is fun. He reveals where the overdubs occurred...
Avatar 11:50pm Kris Holmes:

"Fool Yourself". My friends Dad is in Little Feat & wrote that one. The royalties from his drum break on it (sampled by A Tribe Called Quest et al) have been very good :)
Avatar 11:52pm geezerette:

Think Lowell George lived in Topanga.
Avatar 11:52pm Kris Holmes:

correct, my friends Dad still lives there
Avatar 11:53pm Little Danny:

Yeah, I mean I definitely heard at least four or five LF songs on the regular growing up, and I remember enjoying them.
Avatar 11:54pm Kris Holmes:

"Willin'" is a car singalong fave here
  11:55pm Pete from Melbourne:

Cheers Danny and listners far and wide. Diggin the feel and Vibes on this Teddy Charles cut!!
Night all, will catch what I missed in the futureness of the archive, which is such a great thing BTW, cheers Pete
Avatar 11:55pm geezerette:

It's changed a lot but still a good place. One's always aware of nature there.
Avatar 11:56pm Kris Holmes:

just a great band, i think the very first album would talk to you Dan, you should check it out.
Avatar 11:57pm northguineahills:

I'm going to retetris this pad forever, unpacking sucks. Thanks LD!
Avatar 11:58pm geezerette:

Buddy Colette, Gerald Wilson, some of L.A.s finest.
Lovely way to wind up.
  11:58pm Dean:

"Willing" appeared on two LF studio albums. When has that happened?
Avatar 12:00am geezerette:

A pleasure, Danny.
Good night you lovely people.
  12:00am Dean:

Used to listen to Johnny Otis on radio in LA quite a bit. What a character.
Avatar 12:00am Kris Holmes:

Yeah, Lowell George "Ry Cooder's slide playing was ok but i really wanted to do it myself" lol
Avatar 12:01am Kris Holmes:

Thanks Dan!
Avatar 12:01am geezerette:

Dean, yes! :)
Avatar 12:03am Little Danny:

Hear, hear Geez! Goodnight and luv to y'all!
Avatar 12:03am geezerette:

Ha! Heard George was crusty.
