I made a Pollock style pastel drawing in college art class, but it was based more on his earlier work like "Stenographic Figure".

They did a great stint as the "house band" of The Simpsons in the late 90s with some original songs ("Mayonnaise and Marmalade", anyone?). And I feel they were on other shows like "Eek! The Cat" as well. But on the one hand NRBQ seem clever and Zappa-like, on the other they seem unfocused and all over the place. But I'd like to see them play and find out what they're about.

Their Navagraha astrology is pretty interesting, they have a whole set of myths apparently created to explain the sometimes unusual astronomical observations.
