 Five years ago on May 13th, Victor Lovera left this planet for good after a long illness. He was an amazing songwriter, longtime compatriot of R.Stevie Moore, and a good friend to me. Here are a few audio memories I have. |

Sydney, Australia native/Brooklyn transplant Greta Gertler describes her music as, “70's-style orchestral pop, but urges you not to picture flares and bad jumpsuits.” What you can picture are her brilliantly executed pop melodies sung in Greta's clear soprano. This performance is tastefully embellished by The Carpentier Quartet, a Latino chamber ensemble heavily influenced by Cuban writer Alejo Carpentier. |

Delicate and melancholic, Nick Talbot's songs are grounded in the damage inflicted by love and loss. It's a pastoral folksy scene, strewn with rocks and sharpened sticks. Nick's acoustic was accompanied on his last song by Jeffrey Alexander of Black Forest/Black Sea, whose electronic embellishments are kin to the dark underbelly of psyche folk. Gravenhurst had two albums out at the time, "Flashlight Seasons" and "Internal Travels." Sadly, since this performance Nick Talbot passed away unexpectedly in 2014. Warp Records reissued his 2nd album and subsequent ones, but all may be out of print now. Apple Music does have some of Gravenhurst's music available. |
