Hello Diane! Great start!!
Avatar 12:06pm Cecile:

I have a question for Joe Carducci.
If he was writing Rock and the Pop Narcotic for the first time this year, would it be the same or different? How would it be different?

Personally if I see one more artfully assemebled "authentic" band on an NPR Tiny Desk concert I'll throw up. Give me heartfelt bullshit any day.
Avatar 12:07pm Cecile:

yes!

Saw Voice Farm at Madame Wong's, opening for Blow-Up, if memory serves. They opened the show with the lights down, entered among the audience taking Polaroid snapshots.

'society's arms of control' is directed at goddamn circle jerks? Me thinks not.
Avatar 1:16pm Polyus:

That most recent Saccharine Trust album from 2001 just got a vinyl reissue this year, btw. Grab it if you see it, I think it sounds as good as the stuff they did the first time around.
  1:18pm Dean:

From Brooklyn Bagel Co. west of downtown?
Avatar 1:19pm SueAdynamo:

no HBO here. no idea about GOT
  1:22pm SPOT:

Coley brought me a ridiculous "Bongo Insanity" album from his record store... in addition to bagels... while the Huskers smoked cigs.
  1:23pm Dean:

Does the Beverly Hills drunk tank have a happy hour?
  1:23pm Dean:

The moral of the story is stay the hell out of Beverly Hills!
  1:28pm BnowB:

How they feel about Ian McKay?
  1:31pm Sewer mouth:

Ask them about negativland !
  1:31pm Sewer mouth:

They said they tried to treat everyone on the label fairly , ask the about negativland!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:38pm mrdonutsu:

I'm guessing the whole Negativland thing was after their time, but curious too...
Avatar 1:40pm Cecile:

entrepreneurism vs committee
Avatar 1:45pm Cecile:

Sonic Youth was probably their peak. And then they never made a second record with them. And it seemed like they would release anything by anybody, where before it was more giving people who were great but not signable a chance.
Avatar 1:46pm Cecile:

Less thought seemed to going into their catalog. That was probably the 20 iterations Joe and Mugger were talking about.
  1:49pm cash:

How's abt playing some NigHeist?
  1:51pm BnowB:

Heard an interview with Ian MacKaye saying the Bad Brains musicians were way to right wing Rasta with some anti-gay rhetoric. true?
Avatar 1:52pm Cecile:

One of them beat up on the Big Boys when they were staying with them, saying they were gay.
Avatar 1:54pm Polyus:

H.R. has written and recorded some pretty anti-queer lyrics, don't know about the band as a whole.
Avatar 1:55pm Chris from DC:

Yes, Vitus!
Avatar 1:55pm Polyus:

I wonder if anyone back then had any idea of the importance St. Vitus would have down the road a few decades?
Avatar 1:55pm Cecile:

think Dr. Know has also said some dodgy stuff in the past.
Avatar 1:55pm Cheri Pi:

I saw Saint Vitus play with the Mentors once. that was a...fun show
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:55pm paul b:

Wow! I was a student dj/ - music dir. at U. Maryland's station (WMUC) during this period and this interview has been illuminating to say the least. Hey only I was getting $4.65/ hr. working in the dining hall, but at least I got dinner for free
  1:56pm BnowB:

@cecile isn't that charming
  1:57pm BnowB:

FUGAZI FOR LIFE! best thing to come out of that DC Scene! by light years. IMHO
Avatar 1:57pm V Priceless:

saw St. Vitus last year @ St. Vitus - they were great - the drummer was using 26" ride cymbals as crashes...
Avatar 1:58pm Cheri Pi:

Nice @VP!
Avatar 1:58pm Cecile:

Yeah, it kind of tempered my like of them. I respsect them, some of their songs are my favorite, but they're just said things in the past. Also, I loved the Dicks and the Big Boys and thought they were great bands and also brave as fuck. Listen to U-Ron's interview (really red) Diane did. Texas in the 80s was terrifying.
Avatar 1:58pm Chris from DC:

BnowB I have a real soft spot for Black Market Baby.
Avatar 1:59pm Cecile:

Black Market Baby were awesome.
Avatar 1:59pm Cecile:

Meat Puppets were loopy as hell. Loved them both times I saw them.
  2:00pm BnowB:

Listening to 13 songs at moment and in heaven so I might not be objective. Wait... yea i am.. lmao "were are all..... GUILTY" hehe
Avatar 2:02pm Chris from DC:

Cecile, yeah, they were so much fun live.
Avatar 2:02pm Polyus:

Meat Puppets were my first "punk" show, although by that time they sounded more like the Dead. I still remember an amazing feedback freakout that went on for several minutes at the end.
Avatar 2:04pm Cecile:

call in sometime, Spot!
  2:04pm cash:

Spot, call in!
  2:06pm cash:

How did south bay peeps meet th 'puppets in 1st place?
  2:06pm BnowB:

Minor Threat beyond amazing... a huge favorite of mine !
  2:07pm Dean:

My Meat Puppets "In a Car" EP must be from the original label. It includes an original ink drawing (by one of the band?) on notebook paper.
  2:07pm SPOT:

Hahaha! Once there was a human part of me but I had it surgically removed.
Avatar 2:08pm Cecile:

Yes! Yes! Yes!
  2:09pm BnowB:

And they all wore shaved heads etc.. all styles have well a style
  2:10pm BnowB:

That one dude keeps re-explaining himself a bit aggressively. its odd..
  2:12pm cash:

Unless spot's texting in from his jail cell right now.
  2:13pm BnowB:

overkill not a fan.. like at all .... i know they have this huge following i tried when they came out..
  2:14pm BnowB:

Black Flag = Amazingness
  2:15pm Marc15:

I hate being in a relationship with someone who is clingy

Avatar 2:31pm Cheri Pi:

HA! I love this song! I know almost nothing else about RF7 but this song which I taped off the radio 30+ years ago.
Avatar 2:43pm Cheri Pi:

Rich today you will finally find out!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:44pm Rich in Washington:

It never occurred to me to google them until now. One member was a child actor, just like Dr. Know's Brandon Cruz!
  2:48pm Richardson:

Time to play the Youth Gone Mad's tribute to this fine food...
Avatar 2:48pm Polyus:

Curious to hear their take on bands of the time from the Midwest, in contrast to the what they said about the coasts.
  2:49pm Richardson:

Never thought I'd hear Mugger say "making love".
Avatar 2:50pm Cheri Pi:

HE SAID IT AGAIN, TEEHEEHEE
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:51pm chris:

this has been so great! thanks, DK, Joe and Mugger!
Avatar 2:53pm V Priceless:

@Cecile:"Give me heartfelt bullshit any day.". Classic!
Avatar 2:55pm Chris from DC:

Aw yeah
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:59pm steveo:

Pretty sure there was a multi-story outdoor underwear ad featuring Henry Rollins at Broadway Lafayette in the last year or so...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:59pm Ken From Hyde Park:

I'm pretty sure Clay Pigeon promised Voivod here today, but we can attend to that next time.
Avatar 2:59pm Polyus:

Did I miss the Jack Brewer story, or will it just have to remain a mystery?
  3:01pm chucktown Dan:

spank y'all !
