Issyra Gallery at 300 Observer Highway in Hoboken is an amazing space, it must be seen to
be believed, jam-packed - floor to ceiling - with traditional African art and contemporary art. And for one night only we are filling this fabulous space
with fabulous percussion-driven live music!
Please join us at Issyra for this week's show, Saturday September 9th, from 6-9 pm. Get there early for good seats in the comfiest chairs, and so
our first band doesn't feel lonely!
Admission is free - and we're giving away free WFMU swag!
The entrance, 300 Observer Highway in Hoboken, is on street level, just west of Willow Ave.
Note - it's BYOB! And all ages are okay. (There's a beer and liquor store, Hoboken Vine, a
couple blocks away, at 400 Newark St., corner of Adams St.)
If you can't make it in person, tune in live for performances by four dynamic ensembles:
- Martin Vejarano and the NYC Gaita Club (African and indigenous-rooted flute and drum
traditions from Colombia's Caribbean Coast)
- Tuki Buki Trio featuring Smokey Hormel, Ngor Jallow and Issa Sow (shimmering West African songs)
- Akoko Nante Ensemble (powerful drumming with deep roots in West Africa)
- Maracatu NY (driving northeast Brazilian style percussion)

Massive thanks to our illustrious tech director Irene Trudel along with Rob Christiansen, Dave Satkowski, Rachel Herman, Chris Whitfield (audio), Ruth Hayduk and Jess Charle (video), Katie Gentile (hospitality, giveaways), James Fernandez (board op) and of course Issa Sow and Minou of Issyra gallery.
