There's some good footage on Youtube of Bess Truman christening a ship and the champagne bottle won't break, so she has to keep banging away.

it really does feel like young people have far less general knowledge than all previous generations did at their age. I actually talk with a huge range of people everyday as part of my profession.

theyre just ignorant, and i blame it on a sensory overload. when you get whatever you want, all the time on a little screen, from early in your developmental years, its inevitabley gonna affect you.

Poor Jeremy Turkinson: so full of hate and/or troll. BTW I'm nearly senior, and could still best you intellectually. Sad posuer punk, you're a few decades too late! Shit I shouldn't feed you troll!

There's a comedian (forgive me, I can't remember his name) who does a great bit about the feeling of "not knowing"--as in, if you didn't know something you just didn't know! You couldn't just look it up on your device. I think there's really something to that--and by the same token, when you learned something, you really LEARNED it, and retained it. I think that's something we've unfortunately lost with the advent of immediately accessible technology.

@Jeremy if you can't play nice, there are plenty of old dude shows to pick from on the schedule. Just a warning, we have some great people on this board, we want to keep it nice.

Thanks cosmic! And thanks hypertoast for the name :)

@bruce: that is to say, I think you're right, sadly. It does seem that an amount of curiosity and retention have gone by the wayside...sigh.
