As another David, Byrne, used to put it in live shows, some people don't know shit about the air.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm
kuba:

good evening!

"On The Air" - good pun!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:05pm
Webhamster Henry:

Do you have a German version of "The Air" from Hair, the tribal love-rock musical?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:05pm
Sem Chumbo:

Hello, David, subway folk. Love this opener.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:05pm
Stanley:

Horray for Air.

Hi people!

David D:

Greetings everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:10pm
David D:

Henry, there could be a hair of space for that later...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:11pm
David D:

Halle in the Haus!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:11pm
Webhamster Henry:

Thanks! Non English versions of Hair inform you of multi-lingual grooviness.

Oh, am I in Leipzig? I had no idea?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18pm

Halle /represent/! Finally un-/selfemployment & late hours & sig.o. out of house pays off
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18pm
David D:

βrian: You might be - is it dark out where you are?

A fave Can of mine. Been breaking down trees and cleaning up my parents' place while I wait for word for power to get back on at my house.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:33pm
David D:

Kuba: Sounds good - or at least free, and free is good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:34pm
David D:

NGH: Yes, good luck with all of that - hope things are not too much of a mess over there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:55pm
Webhamster Henry:

It doesn't really trip off the tongue, does it?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:55pm
kuba:

oof this really messes with my language-brain
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:59pm
Webhamster Henry:

I made a karaoke version of The Elements many years ago!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:59pm
kuba:

yes! pierced air! whatever that is... "przekute" does sound like one of these pseudo-slurs, though (as in "gosh darn air")
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:01pm
Ike:

Why only on the air at certain times in Germany? Frequency time-sharing with some other organization?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:02pm
David D:

Thanks, Kuba - that dang air!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:03pm
David D:

Henry: Wow, I can barely imagine!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:04pm
Parq:

Tiger Lils! Shockheaded! Saw this off-Broadway (with, j'regret, Martin's understudy).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:06pm
David D:

Ike: Yes, Radio Blau splits its frequencies with a commercial enterprise in an agreement with the state of Saxony to allow for non-commercial community-based radio.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:08pm
Webhamster Henry:

The trouble with that little video was that it was a little slower than usual, and you actually run out of breath doing it!
Tom Lehrer is a big influence in my life. If you get my iOS app "Enumero", it can count off the elements in "Tom Lehrer order".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:09pm
David D:

Parq: How was it - I've never seen it but the idea sounds wild.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:10pm
David D:

Henry: I will look for it later on an iOS device.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:11pm
Parq:

Well, it was really well put together and very simply staged. I've seen the Lils with Martin several times since, and seen several of the Shockheaded numbers with him in the lead, but I sure wish I could have seen the piece with him.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:12pm
David D:

And you can't get enough Tom Lehrer - I agree entirely.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:15pm
Parq:

I ran into a spate of bad luck at the theater around then. In a short amount of time, i saw an off-Broadway review by the vocal group then known as Toxic Audio with two of their lead singers replaced by understudies, Contact with Boyd Gaines replaced by an understudy and I'm Not Rappaport with Jack Klugman replaced by an understudy. Man, I was glad when that streak came to an end.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:15pm
Parq:

There was a Tom Lehrer off Broadway review ca. 1982. I regret I never got to see it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:17pm
Webhamster Henry:

The songs from that revue were printed as a songbook; "Too Many Songs by Tom Lehrer" . People kept giving me copies so I have three of them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:18pm
David D:

Well I suppose the shows must always go on, Parq - although I can't see anyone really replacing Jack Klugman.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:18pm
Webhamster Henry:

And thanks to the Internet, there's lots of Lehrer material that wasn't around when I was growing up!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:18pm
David D:

Yes, I have a copy of that as well, Henry. Still trying to get ten bars through the Elements, though!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:19pm
Parq:

Henry, don't hold me to this on pain of pain, but I believe the book inspired the revue, not the other way around. Pretty sure I remember seeing the book in stores well before '82.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:28pm
Ike:

Wow, there's no split-time arrangements involving commercial stations in the U.S. as far as I know. Only non-comms do that. Interesting!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:32pm
David D:

Ike: Yeah, it also isn't a typical commercial station but more of a light classic/cool jazz stream with occasional brief commercials. Apparently a move to keep another commercial enterprise from entering the market. But this is all second or third-hand knowledge, could be slightly off.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:40pm
kuba:

TANGENTS!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:41pm
Webhamster Henry:

"The musical congeries that follows owes its existence in part to a rather curious event. An intrepid but not entirely rational young British producer named Cameron Mackintosh took it into his head that what had previously been done to every songwriter from Jacques Brel to Stepen Sondheim might be done to me, namely, a stage production embalming my old songs. The result was entitled Tomfoolery, which opened in London in 1980....All the songs in that show are in this book, including certain alternate lyrics I wrote for the show."

- the Horses' Mouth, in his forward.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:41pm
kuba:

i find them touching
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:44pm
David D:

Kuba, angling in on the main point!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:44pm
Parq:

Harry, don't cudgel me, I was led astray. David, my recollection was that the 2005 production had visuals that only hinted at the nightmare fuel of the published originals. Mostly, all I can find on Google image is pictures of more recent productions that strike me as more elaborate, although that could be, as was the impression that Harry just skewered, completely faulty.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:45pm
doctorjazz:

Hi from Sevilla...air's pretty heavy, 105 degrees today.
(Man, David, you keep late hours, especially that marathon show. Always knew it, but I can really feel it being here...)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:45pm
Parq:

Henry, not Harry. Maybe I should just shut up and get back to work.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:47pm
David D:

Doc: Welcome to the time - if not climatic - zone. Enjoy the heat and the tapas!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:48pm
doctorjazz:

Like this Abassi...(think I've had enough tapas...)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:48pm
David D:

Parq: One would hope that it is sufficiently dark - I wonder if they brought it to Germany at some point...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:51pm
David D:

It's also light out later in the evening over that way - same time zone but much further west.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:57pm
doctorjazz:

Time is all out of whack for me...11:30 PM, just came back from dinner (cafes all seem to be full still).

Taking the air tonight has been most pleasant exercise. Thank you for the aural stroll, David. I'll just let myself off at the next stop. G'night to you, and all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:01pm
Webhamster Henry:

Don't feel bad, Parq! I'm never far from a copy that book and recently glued together its "perfect" binding. The Lehrer show ran in NYC while I was living there for some time, but I never went to see it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:03pm
David D:

Thanks, Sem - glad you could tune in and stroll along!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:04pm
David D:

Parq: I wonder whether that was a German adaptation.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:06pm
David D:

Doctorjazz: Yes, Spanish cafe life is known for its late schedule - are you in one now? Not much happening here that late - during the week anyway.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:10pm
Parq:

David, yeah, I wondered the same thing. Martin is pretty smart, so I would't rule it out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:10pm
doctorjazz:

Just got back to my room, not as young as I used to be, need to conk out soon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:10pm
Parq:

Doc, we are night owls, Mrs. Parq,. the kid and I, so Spain's schedule was perfect for us when we were there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:13pm
doctorjazz:

Used to prowl clubs and the like, still can pull it off, but need my sleep more, if I have morning activities, I need to get in not TOO late...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:18pm
kuba:

whoa, cremaster, it's a total trip!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:52pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:53pm
doctorjazz:

It's that time (and time to get to bed), thanks, David!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:00pm
