Nate, I'm known for running out of the room screeching in not an unsimilar manner, when she gets played. My complaint is not just about her 'shtick' but, to me, she represents a side of New York arts culture I'm not comfortable with. My friends on the board put it down to a form of 'lazy dadaism' but I'm no expert in this (or anything else, for that matter) so I let her be.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:52am
fred:

I lost the playlist for a while... DNS issues on my side, apparently
@Stanley: I have more records by Yoko than by the Beatles, so I guess I'm not your friend
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:53am
Stanley:

@fred: of course you're my friend. My Yoko-loving friend.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:57am
BnowB:

I'm gonna stay out of the yoko debate talk about the heat. lol J/K I don't know enough yoko to judge. First its art.. and that is taste and opinion right? or is it? so there is that question. About what is "art". My opinion my favorite song of hers is a cover by ween called something garden. I don't know her material well. I hear there is a lot of it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:00am
fred:

@Stanley: I don't know much about her art. What I liked about the little I saw was a kind of earnestness that was refreshingly at odds with the usual artistic high-brow pose. So your comment about typical arts culture intrigues me

Ken From Hyde Park:

Good morning. Are we reduced to cinders yet?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:07am
Nate K.:

@Stanley, interesting, and I think from what I gather you mean, a perfectly legitimate take, as opposed to the "she broke up the Beatles" nonsense.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:09am
BnowB:

lol at Nate.. I loved and still love that record. The singer jesse harman went on to do Laptop, had a semi hit in London with "end credits". He had 3 Laptop records. I loved it all. Sammy so classic. I never meet anyone who heard of them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:13am
BnowB:

"she broke up beatles" is total nonsense. Its the old story of rip van wrinkle ... ya know he falls asleep and wakes up his wife is finally gone, not "holding him back" and now life is perfect the war is over and life is perfect again. Thus, leaving the woman to be seen as holding man back. This narrative repeats today in society. Thats my take on blaming yoko, utter BS

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:25am

Nate, Thanks. Yoko's quite a force so it's not surprising she provokes a mixed response. I suppose I'm someone of more simpler tastes and I find her art and music to be a bit overblown and self-indulgent. But I don't want to rain on her parade.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:25am

Hey, Jack. Great seeing you the other night.

Mark R:

My own opinion, leaving aside her other art, is that musically, I think Yoko Ono is a perfect example of the Emperor's New Clothes, people saying they love it just to sound sophisticated and pretending to understand something the rest of us plebeians don't. Well, I'm not ashamed to say I don't get it, I hate it, and if she weren't married to John Lennon, most people would have never heard of her. Send your hate mail to me c/o WFMU.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:57am
ultradamno:

Lovely song. RIP HDS.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:58am
Ken From Hyde Park:

Yoko Ono turns 85 next year Feb. 18. She's getting up there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:58am
Nate K.:

Mark R., I don't get how anyone can think that after hearing "Don't Worry Kyoko." It's as good as any No Wave song of the era.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:59am
Nate K.:

I think many people would know who she was if she hadn't married Lennon, but the hate wouldn't be as unhinged.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:59am
ultradamno:

^Plus, it's got a good beat and I can dance to it!
