Evening all...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:09pm efd:

hi there threemoons
  9:10pm Dion Chalksee:

I could if I would. Only Mark Farner and Don Brewer can answer that question. Don't ask Dennis Bellinger, they don't tell him anything.
  9:11pm Dion Chalksee:

What Stores did you go to?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:14pm efd:

A couple of Reckless locations, Logan Hardware, Laurie's Planet Of Sound, and Val's Halla in Chicago; Rush-mor, Acme, and Off The Beaten Path in Milwaukee.
  9:15pm Dion Chalksee:

Did you meet Val?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:17pm efd:

No, she wasn't in yet.
  9:18pm Dion Chalksee:

She is the coolest. 45+ years in the biz.
Avatar 9:20pm herb.nyc:

Hi Evan and all, am enjoying the songs while playing w my cat, and reading "the speed of sound", Thomas Dolby's memoirs. Fun stuff. Kevin Rowland just dissed him at a New Music Seminar panel. - spk'ng of record stores, a new hip shiney snack place is open, on site of Other Music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:21pm KidProJoe:

How did you like Wrigley Field?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:22pm efd:

loved it! But how could I not?
  9:22pm Dion Chalksee:

If you were a Sox fan you would hate it and call it a dump.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:23pm efd:

But I am a Sox f-- ohhhhh, you mean the OTHER Sox.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:24pm KidProJoe:

Yes, a lot of fans of Guaranteed Rate Field hate it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:24pm Uncle Michael:

Yo. Yo. Yo. Yo...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:25pm Threemoons:

@herb.nyc: Yow, someone dissed Thomas Dolby? I have had numerous occasions to see him perform over the years and have met him in the flesh several times; a brilliant artist, and a scholar and a gentleman for sure....also BOOOOOO RE more hipster bullshit on site of Other Music....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:27pm Uncle Michael:

Only dipshits dislike Wrigley Field. DIPSHITS.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:27pm Bootsie:

Happy belated!
  9:27pm Dion Chalksee:

I have not watched an entire baseball game in over 10 years, yet I am raising my son to be a Cubs hating Sox fan. Southside pride!
  9:30pm Dion Chalksee:

New Wave/Disco border? Build the wall.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:32pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Greetings, Mr. Funk Davies. Glad your trip and birthday went well. I remembered you were going to be on tonight when I heard Clay Pigeon play "The Bedazzler" this morning.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:32pm KidProJoe:

Grew up a Cubs fan on the Southside, It was rough
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:35pm Uncle Michael:

  9:37pm Dion Chalksee:

SS Cubs fans are a dime a dozen nowadays. Where'd you grow up, joe?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:39pm KidProJoe:

Very few in the 80s. Morgan Park.
  9:39pm Dion Chalksee:

efd- Did you get a chance to view the Fabulous Ones wrestling promo video that used Skatt Brothers' Life At The Outpost as the soundtrack?
  9:40pm listener 126464:

i haven't heard this since new afternoon show
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:41pm efd:

lol, good one 126464
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:41pm Uncle Michael:

Charlie Blackmon might be a wookie.
  9:41pm Dion Chalksee:

Joe- Have you ever heard that Canaryvillians cheer the Cubs because they hate Bridgeport so much? I heard it, but can't confirm that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:42pm Switchblade Batman:

Sup people. And happy belated birthday @EFD
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:42pm efd:

oh shoot, I forgot about it Dion! Will try to remember this week.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:43pm KidProJoe:

Canaryville was all Sox I thought, but I wouldn't put it past them. Weird hood.
Avatar 9:44pm Joe B:

Honey one of my new faves in the new bin
  9:44pm Dion Chalksee:

It is well worth it. A few parts of it remin me of the cover of Black Oak Arkansas' X-Rated lp cover, but with Speedos instead of overalls.
  9:51pm medson:

Yes do it.
  9:51pm herb.nyc:

That Real Numbers song was excellent! --@Threemoons, TDolby sounds like such a sweetie, at least according to him. He's at MJackson's mansion, circa Thriller, and the 2 have great conversation. Then he meets a buncha local young children at his house. It was 8,9pm. Hmm...
  9:52pm medson:

Hola efd. Great show so far.
Tuning in this week via FMU App in beautiful Cape May.
Definitely bummed on the passing of Petty.

  10:16pm Stevel:

Yes. Going to a club and having little idea of what to expect, especially from the opening act. Experiencing more than judging, because most bands sounded entirely different.

  10:41pm medson:

In chatting with a friend this week about Tom Petty, he thought he wasn’t really a Tom Petty fan. And with his death and all the songs being played all week he was like god damn I guess I always liked Tom Petty. So many great songs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:43pm KidProJoe:

Great interview!
  10:44pm herb.nyc:

Such a good story, re 33 1/3 book leading to meeting Tom Petty. I wanna read the Dusty book now. (Read Joe Pernice's "meat is murder"). Great interview.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:56pm Cooh John:

Tried to listen to every TP record on cassette doing a long road trip in '82 but my buddy cut it off after the 2nd cassette.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:56pm Ken From Hyde Park:

@Tommy - For sure. You could fill a whole show with his songs. Thanks, efd.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57pm Cooh John:

I don't know how long I can hold on...
  10:57pm johnk77:

thanx again @efd
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:58pm Scraps:

My first little brother was so much a Tom Petty fan. And saw him two weeks ago in Seattle. Very upset.

I respect Petty, since "I Need to Know". Hey, efd, here it comes! Yeah!

I figured he's his generation's John Fogerty.
  10:59pm Stevel:

I Need to Know really fit the New Wave/Punk vibe. Strident young men with a message and great songs. Elvis Costello, Joe Jackson, Tom Petty. Rockers, especially out of the gate.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59pm Cooh John:

My kids sang this song to me for my 50th birthday.
  11:00pm gregory:

Thanks Evan , for a proper tribute to the man. An American original . This one hurts .
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:01pm Scraps:

Straight up rock and roll, hit after hit, just kept coming. Had a knack
  11:02pm Julie M:

Hurts because it was so unexpected. Evan, you're making me stay up later than usual, and maybe making me cry a little.
  11:03pm johnk77:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:03pm jmd:

What? Nothing from Hard Promises?
  11:03pm Hanley Ramirez:

My Man.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:03pm Figgsrock:

This is just what I needed EFD. And thank Warren for the "Same Old You" pick.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:05pm Cooh John:

@Hanley Ramirez: Been saying the same since the 70's. Tom Petty, he's my man.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:08pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Maybe the placement is similar to why grocery stores put the milk in the back corner opposite of the entrance.
Avatar 11:08pm Joe B:

great point ken!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:10pm jmd:

It’s a ‘corner’ song. First or last on either side of the slab.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:14pm Scraps:

Yep, jmd. And leave the listener satisfied.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:23pm Figgsrock:

Wow EFD, nothing like playing back to back tracks from 2 of my fave LPs of the year. I am getting my Swag for Life money's worth tonight!
  11:24pm Ajax:

Great tribute, thanks. That American Girl gets me every time.
  11:28pm PJ:

Thank you for the Petty tribute, Evan.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:28pm efd:

thanks Ajax, Figgs, Cooh, Hanley, Scraps, Julie, and everyone!. Sorry about the lack of Hard Promises cuts jmd, that's kind of a blind spot for me for some reason.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:53pm Figgsrock:

Hey EFD, this is actually "Tonight"--did you mean to play this one?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55pm efd:

hm, nope, apparently our promo cd is mis-labeled. Thanks for the tip!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:57pm efd:

... or mis-sequenced, because the label matches the track list I see online.
  11:57pm lcdpee:

is it just me or is"tonite" playing at a higher speed than it should be?
