@webhamster - lots of it is! Goto80 does a lot of his music on the commodore 64 for example. There are a bunch of modern tools that lets you sound authentic using plugins like chipsounds, or programs that lets you work on a modern computer but render to something that can play on vintage hardware like famitracker.
