My spanish is no bueno..... Took it from 7th grade to 9th grade. Switched to German in 10th grade and taught myself French.... So I know a lot of a little bit of languages! ha!

Took German in Jr. High, tried French post high school, Japanese during the married years and learned a little Farsi the summer of 1977 in Tehran

I can still count to 10 in all of them

Tried to take Latin in HS, but not enough people signed up, so, I ended up w/ Spanish. I took Japanese in elementary school, but I forgot mostly everything but profanity. I'm pretty good at Quebecois and and can read German. After that my linguistic prowess quickly diminishes.

Anyone speak Catalan? Friends of ours live in Barcelona. She learned Spanish and then Catalan. He still speaks only English, but loves not knowing what people are saying and just walks around having adventures.

I'm familiar with lots of languages, and I have to say, of WFMU DJs, David Dichelle of Continental Subway has the best pronunciation of the multilingual back announcing he does. Ken is a kind of El Bloombito, but he revels in it.

Castilian is one w/ the pronounced lisp. Catalan has a bit of a lisp, but it's the words and spelling the differ quite a lot from Spanish-Spanish.

Visited Barcelona once, and found a pretty rare Dylan bootleg. I took it to the counter and said "Lo siento, no hablo Catalán ". The clerk looked me in the eye and said 'Lo siento, no hablo español ". Cracked me up.

Think it's Castilian that has the lisp. Catalan is crazy! High school Spanish won't help at all! I'm a stupid monolingual American. For most people it's much better to learn languages in early childhood.

Ken, it was! Happens every year at Hollywood Forever Cemetary. The altars are incredible, hundreds of thousands of people show up ; entire families. Everyone is sweet, friendly and kind to each other. There's great music, food, costumes, dancing...anyone visiting LA in late Oct. should go.
