Avatar 12:06pm V Priceless:

Hey and yay, Diane! Still riding fumes of Chiller withdrawal syndrome here - loud Rock helps, thanx : )

yo coe!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07pm coe:

Mike's quote to his Drs. really was somthing.
Avatar 12:07pm Luna:

I've only heard The Cars version of this tune.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:08pm coe:

Hey ya V
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:08pm Aaron Working In Newark:

Great song
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm coe:

I still have not found anything in the Chiller vein down here yet. There has been plenty of comicbook book and music festivals but nothing with that more horror or pop culture slant still looking
Avatar 12:09pm SmokinJ:

Beautiful shit! 8-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm Aaron Working In Newark:

Oh man, RIP Mike

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13pm coe:

I played When I Die as a tribute the other night and one of the other folks didn't find it appropriate. I applauded them for knowing who Mike and the Pagens were and expresed we would agree to disagree.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13pm chris:

hello folks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15pm Aaron Working In Newark:

Awesome....this tune cranks
Avatar 12:17pm Cheri Pi:

That's all you can do @Coe, I think Mike would have appreciated it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:22pm Jeezy:

I first heard "Boy Can I Dance Good" on a cassette I had of a Music To Spazz By program from the early nineties, if you can believe it. The song-listing was cut off the tape so I had to wonder for many, many years who it was by...
Avatar 12:22pm Tito "Pepe" Infidado:

Hola Kamikaze y todos los otros locos! Su tiempo para mecerse y rebelarse de cualquier manera posible.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm Jeezy:

But. BOY did I love that song... and continue to love it! RIP Mike Hudson!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm coe:

After being told that he would need surgury to avoid sepsis according to his girlfriend "He told the doctors that he didn't think he'd wake up if he had the surgery," she said. "So he told them, 'I've had my adventures and my escapades and have lived a full, wonderful life and want to go home to be with my babies (his dogs).'
Avatar 12:25pm Diane Kamikaze:

Hi All! So yes, Mike Hudson is gone, and at some point I need to dig out his Peer Pressure session for an encore presentation! Rick Brown of the Proletariat on at 1pm, stay tuned! THANKS FOR BEING HERE, ALL OF YOU EVEN IF IT's FOR 1 MINUTE! xo
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:32pm Mister Dobalina:

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss, Diane. My thoughts will be with you.
Avatar 12:35pm Cecile:

From what I was reading, I don't think he could handle any more loss. I'm glad he kind of got to choose his way out.
Avatar 12:36pm Cecile:

Rest in power, Mike.
Avatar 12:38pm Cecile:

Avatar 12:38pm Diane Kamikaze:

I feel the same way, Cecile.
Avatar 12:40pm Cecile:

I myself would have had the surgery, but I didn't have half the crap that happened to him. So if it makes the pain go away and you can say goodbye, that's all well then.
Avatar 12:42pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

may i hello please
Avatar 12:43pm Diane Kamikaze:

I thought the doctors also told him that they found he had colon cancer, so he would have had to undergo some aggressive treatment after the sepsis recovery- and the description I read was not good.
  12:43pm jess:

:( sorry Dianne
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Hi, Diane and company. Hoping this turns out to be a good day.
Speaking of health stuff, how are you doing, Cecile? Throat situation getting better?
Avatar 12:47pm Cecile:

Yeah, but sometimes the initial diagnosis can be off. I had my bout with globus effect (painful pointy lump in my throat) diagnosed as a potential calcified carotid artery and a broken voicebox until at various times until finally I found out it was acid reflux. I know I can't know under HIPPA regulations, but I'd like to know how thorough they were.
Avatar 12:49pm Cecile:

Ken, it's been good. But I can't drink Bloody Marys and coffee in the same day. And if I eat red sauce spaghetti, I have to lay off sour and spicy. But it's 98% back to what it used to be.
  12:50pm Don S:

The Proletariat were the first of the Boston hardcore bands I got to see. I was in Boston and saw them at the Rat on a random weeknight. The were always one of my favorites. They didn't play out too often but saw them several times, including with Husker Du at Mavericks in '83. Legendary.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm chris:

colon cancer is easily screened/diagnosed with a fecal immunochemical test (FIT)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52pm chris:

acid reflux is horrible and painful. sorry, Cecile.
Avatar 12:54pm Cecile:

It's mostly gone. thanks Chris. I had an elimination diet that was a chore, but it was just for 3 months. It was just a horribly annoying minor thing.

Well, that's good to know Chris.
Avatar 12:54pm Cheri Pi:

for the last 15 years I too have had acid reflux, I pop a pill everyday, somedays I pop 2. It's worth it because I'd rather eat hot peppers, curries, caffeine, than go without, I'm willing to risk the pill's side effects to which there are none thankfully (yet)
Avatar 12:55pm Cheri Pi:

And always sleep on your left side if you have the reflux! Total game changer
Avatar 12:56pm Cecile:

I had to do two courses of generic Prilosec this year, but it seems to have taken. As long as I don't eat late at night, and avoid piling acid on acid, it's good.
Avatar 12:56pm Chris from DC:

Bummed out I have to miss the Proletariat down here tomorrow, but looking forward to Peer Pressure.
  1:00pm Raoul Debord:

Damn, I didn't realize at first The Proletariat was one of the bands on This is Boston not L.A., I'm hyped now !
Avatar 1:05pm Cecile:

How many copies of Gang of Four's Entertainment have you worn out?
Do you have any Gerard Cosloy storiee?
Did you go over better with regular rock audiences or hardcore shows?
Avatar 1:05pm Cecile:

How many copies of Burma's Signals, Calls and Marches have you worn out?
Avatar 1:07pm Cecile:

Step II grievances! HR shop talk
Avatar 1:13pm Cecile:

Hardcore drove out a lot of people including women. There, I said it.
Avatar 1:17pm Wild Neil:

@Cecile-what exactly IS "hardcore". Hardcore punk with hard-driving almost heavy metal music to it?
Avatar 1:19pm Cecile:

it started as super fast, punishing, but almost with a lightness to it. Then metal came in and it got thicker, dumber, more abrasive.
Avatar 1:19pm Cecile:

it was also a lot more purist than metal or punk.
Avatar 1:20pm Wild Neil:

@Cecile-who is the best hardcore band when it started iyo?
Avatar 1:21pm Cecile:

wow, there are so many. The best is probably Bad Brains. My personal favorites are Really Red and Die Kreuzen.
Avatar 1:22pm Wild Neil:

Black Flag? I have heard Bad Brains a few times. Reggae punk I think.
Avatar 1:22pm Chris from DC:

Avatar 1:22pm Cecile:

But you can never go wrong with Minor Threat. Black Flag.
They did some reggae stuff, but they are credited with inventing it.
Avatar 1:23pm Cecile:

But I really not an expert on it. I wasn't in a band, and I'm not a hardcore record collector.
Avatar 1:23pm Diane Kamikaze:

It totally depends on which era Bad Brains you heard. Cecile! My absolute faves as well. :)
Avatar 1:24pm Cecile:

High five!
Avatar 1:25pm Chris from DC:

I can only imagine seeing Burma regularly back then.
Avatar 1:26pm Cecile:

WOW! so cool.
Avatar 1:28pm Cecile:

Lou Giordano is a really good producer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:34pm Michael 98145:

well, okay
Avatar 1:41pm V Priceless:

great interview, DK - tix for the 11/4 Bowery Electric gig in NYC are a mere $ 10 in advance (!!), $ 12 day of (also w/Drew Stone's Hit Squad & Bowhead):
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42pm joe:

The definition of "hardcore" is probably the only topic of conversation more volatile than the conversation of the definition of “punk”
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:44pm Michael 98145:

mix in the topic of -straight edge- ...
Avatar 1:45pm Cecile:

yup, exactly joe and Michael.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:55pm Michael 98145:

Wire has always been great; and Come was a really good band live
Avatar 1:56pm David Shortell:

I just heard that tonight's Proletariat show at the Brighton Bar has been CANCELED.
  1:57pm JP:

Bostson Hardcore vs. New York Hardcore like Jets vs. Sharks.
  1:57pm JP:

Great interview.
Avatar 2:01pm Diane Kamikaze:

Yes David, thanks, that show was cancelled over a week ago. We didn't mention it live, maybe I should have, but I'm pretty sure it's off the Brighton's site.
Avatar 2:04pm Diane Kamikaze:

New Yorkers: I've got 2 pair of tickets for the Bowery Electric show on Saturday - The Proletariat, Bowhead, Drew Stone Hit Squad. I'll announce as well, but if one of you wants, first YEP gets a pair! :)
  2:06pm JP:

I wish I could go. Too bad I am out of town saturday.
Avatar 2:09pm Cecile:

Solid Gold was a great album, too. Kind of lives in shadow of the first album.
  2:09pm The Slugger:

Gotta listen late today and play catch up. Mike Hudson rules!!! Great set Diane!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:09pm Michael 98145:

good time for music -
Avatar 2:11pm V Priceless:

Avatar 2:13pm Diane Kamikaze:

Er, Come that is.
Avatar 2:19pm V Priceless:

yay - roger that, Diane - thanks!
  2:19pm fletchernyc:

Avatar 2:19pm Cecile:

Fans of F*ck didn't have an easy time of it, either.
Avatar 2:20pm Diane Kamikaze:

Avatar 2:21pm V Priceless:

Child Abuse still the most difficult name to get behind, IMHO - I mean 'I really dig Child Abuse'? Sheesh
Avatar 2:22pm Chris from DC:

Polyus, yeah they were great. And Thalia's recent output is really good too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:24pm Michael 98145:

Oh Thalia is one of my Rock Gods.
Avatar 2:26pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

@Wild Neil: If the Blues Traveler has a few tracks that would appeal to the WFMU audience, suggest them to the appropriate dj, and they might play them (pretty sure they have something decent, something outside of their 'hits')
